Kyrgyzstan picks 12 boxers for ASBC elite tourney

A mix of veterans and rising stars will compose the 12-man Kyrgyzstan national team for the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 on October 31 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.

Bannering the Kyrgyz squad are 31-year-old Rio Olympian and two-time Asian bronze medalist Erkin Adylbek Uulu and 32-year-old Asian bronze winner Mirlan Turkbay Uulu, who will compete in the cruiserweight (86kg) and minimumweight (48kg) divisions, respectively.

Former Asian youth champion Nuradin Rustambek Uulu will slug it out in the light middleweight (71kg) class while AIBA Youth World Championships 2021 bronze medalist Zhantoro Tashiyev will fight in the light welterweight (63.5kg) category.

Also in the lineup are World University Boxing Championship winner Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu (light heavy-80kg) and fellow World Championships 2021 quarterfinalist Sanzhai Seidakmatov (bantam-54kg).

Kyrgyzstan is aiming to outdo its four-bronze haul in the previous Asian elite meet held in Dubai last 2021 and snare its first gold since Azat Usenaliev’s title back in 2013.

The Kyrgyz pugilists joined a number international competitions this year, including the Strandja Memorial Tournament, Belgrade Winner Tournament and Elorda Cup, to gear up for the Asian Elite Championships.
