Kuwait selected their team to the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships

Kuwait selected its final team to the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships which will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on January 20-30. Their squad will be arriving to the Uzbek capital before the start and plans to show their developments.

The sports authorities selected only the currently best boxers to the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships which is the first activity of the new year. Their three boxers are shined in the previous national events and training camps and all of them have got chance also to compete in the elite championships in 2022.

Kuwait returned to the boxing events after their suspension in the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and since then the country is the permanent participant of the international competitions. Kuwait City hosted the 2019 edition of the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships which was the first edition and a boxing boom in the Arabic country.

Kuwait’s best boxers competed at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and their National Federation sent them also to youth and junior competitions despite of the Covid-19 pandemic. Kuwait registered also to the AIBA World Boxing Championships but their boxers could not attend in the Belgrade edition last October.

Their flyweight (51kg) boxer, Abdulla Fares Obaid celebrated his 20th birthday three months ago and plans to increase his international experiences in Tashkent. Turki Abuquzailah Al-Azmi is event younger than Obaid, he is only 19 and he can box in the U22 age group still in 2024 as well. He is the youngest in the current team and will be attending at the bantamweight (54kg) in the Uzbek capital.

Kuwait’s No.1, Youssef Farhoud Hussain moved up to the new cruiserweight (86kg) which is perfect for his physical conditions. The 22-year-old boxer competed at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships therefore he is the most experienced in their current U22 national team.
