Kosimova, Zulkaynarova, Samadova stay atop Tajikistan women’s tilt

ASBC Asian medalists Sumaiya Kosimova, Shoira Zulkaynarova and Mizhgona Samadova snagged titles anew in the Tajikistan Women’s National Championships and boosted their bids to compete in the upcoming IBA Women’s World Championships.

Asian U22 Championships 2022 silver winner Kosimova crushed her rivals Polina Palvanova and Fatima Kholova, 3-0, to defend her minimumweight (48kg) throne in the capital city of Dushanbe.

Zulkaynarova, a two-time Asian elite bronze finisher and World Championships 2022 quarterfinalist, came through with a dominant debut in welterweight (66kg) as she trounced Malika Nozimova, 3-0.

Another Asian elite bronze medalist Samadova moved up to lightweight (60kg) where she stopped the taller Makhbuba Amrokhonova in the opening round of their gold medal bout.

National team mainstay Rukhafzo Khaknazarova, meanwhile, retained her light flyweight (50kg) title after pulling off a first-round RSC victory over Arafamo Sangova.

Nigora Olimova walked over to the final following her main rival, Madina Gaforova was unable to fight in the day of the semi-finals. The young hope from Dushanbe had a narrow final fight against Fariza Yokubova but Olimova managed to win that contest.

Mavluda Abdullozoda achieved Dushanbe’s fourth-in-a-row success at the featherweight (57kg) after beating Dildoda Asakolova.

One of the top finals of the Women’s National Championships was held between Nilufar Boboyorova of Dushanbe and 18-year-old Bibinashastamo Kholova of Kulob. Both boxers have international bouts and this time Boboyorova’s experience paid off in their final.

Two more champions were crowned in the national event that served as the main selection for the World Championships which will take place in New Delhi, India on March 14-26.

Tajikistan is eager to grab a medal this time after its four representatives fell short last year in Istanbul, Turkey.
