Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Zhakpekov was the star of the Mamazhanov & Taraday Youth & Junior Tournament

The 27th edition of the Asylbek Mamazhanov and Viktor Taraday Youth Tournament was held in the city of Zhezkazgan which is located in the Karagandy region of the country. The biggest star of the event was definitely the ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Zhakpekov who won the gold medal in Zhezkazgan.
Boxers who were born in 2001 and in 2002 were eligible to take part in the Asylbek Mamazhanov and Viktor Taraday Youth Tournament in Zhezkazgan. Nine weight classes were held in the competition from the pinweight (46kg) up to the light heavyweight (81kg) and altogether 94 boxers were attended in the competition.
Karagandy’s Akzhol Gulmurat won the title in the Makanalin & Nokerbekov & Satenov Junior Memorial Tournament three months ago and arrived to Zhezkazgan as a favourite at the pinweight (46kg). The 16-year-old talent eliminated Uzbekistan’s technician Begzhan Serimbetov in a narrow semi-final and continued his winning path in the final against Astana’s Alkey Seyilbek.
Astana’s first gold medal was achieved by Batyrlan Batyrbayev who failed to get any medal in the Makanalin & Nokerbekov & Satenov Junior Memorial Tournament in June but this time he was more prepared. The 16-year-old light flyweight (49kg) boxer had a close semi-final against East Kazakhstan’s Ruslan Akmatbekov but he was confident in the final against Shuchinsk’s Bauyrzhan Kabiollov.
The flyweight (52kg) gold medal went to Bekzat Nurtayev in the competition who was too quick to Stepnogorsk’s Ardak Sagymbek in the final. Astana’s Junior National Championships bronze medallist 16-year-old Temirkhan Tezek eliminated Shuchinsk’s Amir Zhaksylykov in the semi-final and he used the perfect tactic against Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships competitor Mukhtarbek Ibragimov in the final of the bantamweight (56kg).
Kokshetau’s Yerkanat Arystangali claimed gold medal in the 2017 Kazakh Junior National Championships and he was too experienced to Stepnogorsk’s Nazarbay Seitkhanov in the final of the lightweight (60kg). Another future prospect Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships bronze medallist Aidar Oroskulov failed his first bout and travelled back to home without any podium place.
Zhezkazgan’s best future hope Amirkhan Seyilbek is only 16 but his skills were enough to beat all of his rivals including Zhaksy’s Aleksandr Pertryashen in the final of the light welterweight (64kg). Karagandy’s Nikita Gorbachev eliminated his main rival Uzbekistan’s Sobir Mardonov in the quarter-finals and following that he defeated Erkhat Bekzat and Nurym Sabetuly as well during his road to the title of the welterweight (69kg).
One of the biggest future hopes of Kazakhstan Yerassyl Zhakpekov claimed gold medal in the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships and won several junior international events in Azerbaijan, in Hungary and in Kazakhstan this year. The 16-year-old talent moved up to the middleweight (75kg) and dominated his final against Adil Sattibekov in Zhezkazgan getting a new title.
Almaty’s Nursultan Beysenbayev claimed silver medals in the Galib Dzhafarov Junior Tournament, in the Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup and in the Makanalin & Nokerbekov & Satenov Junior Memorial Tournament this year. Following his three silver medals he changed them into gold in Zhezkazgan where he was too strong for Uzbekistan’s Abror Turginboyev in the final of the light heavyweight (81kg).
