Kazakh claimed dozen of gold medals in the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament

Kazakhstan sent big delegation to the 68th edition of the Bornemissza Youth & Junior Memorial Tournament to the city of Eger, Hungary and amazed the boxing fans in the competition. Their boxers claimed altogether 12 gold medals in the strong competition and topped the No.1 position in the team rankings.
Eger is located in the Northern part of Hungary and famous of its boxing schools and of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament which was named by a previous military official who led the defense of the castle during the Turkish siege in 1552. The 68th edition of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament saw 269 boxers from 19 countries in Eger.
Kazakhstan’s top junior boxers claimed three gold medals in the event and several further podium places against strong US, Russian and Ukrainian talents. The first Kazakh gold medal was achieved by Yerbolat Sabyr at the junior light flyweight (48kg) where he defeated United States’ Chavez Barrientes in the final.
Defending ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Zhakpekov won all of his contests in the recent 19 months and was named as the Best Boxer of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament following his triumph over Russia’s EUBC European Schoolboys Champion Mikhail Usov in the final of the junior light middleweight (70kg).
Kazakhstan’s Junior & Schoolboys National Champion Yevgeniy Prikhodko was excellent in the recent one year and arrived to the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament as the main favourite of the junior middleweight (75kg). The 15-year-old Pavlodar-based talent defeated Croatia’s top hope in this age group Antonio Grabic in the final using his powerful combinations mainly from the second round.
Makhmud Sabyrkhan, Talgat Syrymbetov and Biybars Zheksen were excellent as juniors including also at the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships. All of them joined to the youth age group only this January but they were unstoppable in the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament beating their Slovenian and Montenegrin rivals in the gold medal contests.
Kazakhstan’s youth lightweight (60kg) No.1 Rakhat Seitzhan controlled all of the rounds against Denmark’s Nikolai Terteryan and won the title in Eger. Talgat Shayken had also a Danish opponent in the final of the light welterweight (64kg) Sebastian Terteryan but his first round was too strong for his European opponent. Thomas Kyo the Danish head coach abandoned their final in the second round which meant Shayken also achieved gold medal in the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament.
Children of Asia Games winner Yermakhan Zhakpekov defeated Norway’s Don Emini in the final of the welterweight (69kg). Nurbek Oralbay (75kg), Sagyndyk Togambay (81kg) and Aibek Oralbay (91kg) also won their weight classes in Eger finalizing Kazakhstan’s 12 gold medal series in the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament.
Kazakhstan’s Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbayuli, Junior National Champion Yerassyl Tankay, Meirzhan Aidar, Georgiy Aushev have achieved silver medals in the junior level. Children of Asia Games winner Damir Toybay lost to Croatia’s EUBC European Junior Champion Josip Biletic in a hectic final of the youth super heavyweight (+91kg).
