Jordan’s two boxers have been preparing for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Havana, Cuba where they are participating in an international training camp to meet with strong opponents in the trainings. Two young hopes 21-year-old Hussein Iashaish and 22-year-old Obada Al-Kasbeh will be representing Jordan in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Jordan had a historical participation in the boxing tournament of the London 2012 Olympic Games where Ihab Darweish Al-Matbouli could compete at the Light Heavyweight class (81 kg). Jordan’s pride not only competed in the Games but he was able to win his opening bout in London which was a historical success of the country.
Jordan sent big delegation to the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event to Qian’an, China where the Arabic country secured one Olympic spot. The third Asian Olympic quota place at the Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg) was achieved by Jordan’s AIBA World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Hussein Iashaish who boxed in different rhythm than Iran’s Abdulmajid Sepahvandi in Qian’an and won their Box-off clearly.
Obada Al-Kasbeh advanced to the quarter-finals of the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event at the Lightweight class (60 kg) in Qian’an and he was able to repeat the same strong performance at the World Olympic Qualification Event in Baku. After three wins in the Baku event he failed his last step for the guaranteed quota place for Rio at the Light Welterweight class (64 kg) but his efforts were excellent in Azerbaijan.
Obada Al-Kasbeh received an extra place from the Tripartite Quota Commission in the recent days and also can show his technique in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. His wild card means Jordan will have record number of two boxers in the Olympic Games in Brazil where their chances are great to win contests as well.
The head coach of the Jordan national boxing team 3-star Mr. Azzedine Aggoune, who came from Algeria to the Western Asian country in 2015, is also with the team in Cuba to finalize their preparation for the Olympic Games.
