Ishara Thushari Perera and Hasitha Nuwan Jinadasa were named as the best boxers at the Sri Lankan Layton Cup

The Layton Cup Boxing Tournament finished with its exciting finals at the Negombo Beach, following the competition moved there from the Royal MAS Arena. K.K. Ishara Thushari Perera and T. Hasitha Nuwan Jinadasa were named as the Best Female and Male Boxers in the Layton Cup.
The Layton Cup Boxing Tournament was one the selection events for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships which will be starting in Amman on November 28 and the Sri Lankans are planning to send a big team.
Nearly 150 female and male boxers competed at the Layton Cup in Sri Lanka from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Police and several boxing clubs from all over the country. Next to the military services, the Vidyarathna SC and the St. Sylvester’s Boxing Club also won titles at the prestigious Layton Cup.
The newly President of Sri Lanka Boxing Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara watched all of the bouts and together with several officials, he presented the medals and the prizes.
One of the experienced female national team members, R.A. Nadeeka Pushpakumari won the first female final against H.K.N.N. Perera in the final of the women’s minimumweight (48kg) therefore she has strong chance to represent Sri Lanka in Amman next month.
K.K. Ishara Thushari Perera dominated her final against Army’s Dilani Silva and she not only claimed the title of the light flyweight (50kg) but she bagged the Best Female Boxer Trophy as well and she received the prize money.
H. Sanduni Priyadarshani (52kg), L.I. Nishadi Malshani (54kg), the Asian Games competitor Kasthuri Arachchige Keshani Hansika (57kg) and another veteran, Muthuthanthri P.S. Sajeewani Cooray (60kg) won the further female finals.
Police’s T. Hasitha Nuwan Jinadasa defeated Back2Fits’ D.H. Tissaaratchy in the final of the men’s minimumweight (48kg) with excellent performance and the former Stubbs Shields Champion was named as the Best Male Boxer of the competition.
Sri Lanka’s best male boxer, the 21-year-old Umayanga Mihiran not only eliminated K.A.S.K. Abeygunawardana in the semi-final of the flyweight (51kg), but he stopped a strong opponent in the final, Navy’s Gayan Indika Bandara.
Sri Lanka’s Commonwealth Games quarter-finalist, the 25-year-old Podi Arachchige Rukmal Prasanna bowed out Air Force’s Kuda Vithanage Lasindu Eranda in the semi-finals of the featherweight (57kg) and K.H. Navodya was also not able to stop him.
Navy’s H.A. Hansa Dilsara Hettiarachchi eliminated the Seed No.1, P.S.P.S Siriwardana in the semi-finals of the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) and he continued his winning path against S.C.M.S. Samarakoon in the final.
One of their international tournament winners, the Air Force’s I.P.D. Chinthana Udayakumara had a tight success against P.M.L.L. Chandrabandara in the final of the light middleweight (71kg). St. Sylvester’s Boxing Club Yazmin Muhammad Usaith also won his final in the Negombo Beach by 3:2 split decision.
