Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib Former President of the Syrian Boxing Federation Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib is the Supervisor of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa, in the island of Palawan. Mr. Shbib has been working in Saudi Arabia since 2015 and following his strong management the country re-joined to the Asian boxing map.
Asia’s experienced Supervisor led the ASBC Refereeing & Judging Commission Meeting as Acting Chairman in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent in May and attended several events as official. Mr. Shbib is one of the most experienced official in the boxing world who informed us about his opinions in the Puerto Princesa event and other issues in Saudi Arabia.
“The level of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships here in Puerto Princesa is excellent; we all recognized the development of the Asian countries. I guarantee some of these boxers will be key members of their national elite boxing teams in the upcoming years.
I mean not only the strongest in our continent, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan sent tough boxers to the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships but other countries such as India, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Philippines, South Korea and others are also are here with well-prepared athletes.
Saudi Arabia is competing in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships with five boxers in Puerto Princesa in the Philippines which is a great comeback from the country. Saudi Arabia did not compete since 40 years in any Asian Championships only in the Asian Games. Yousuf Hawsawi claimed silver medal in the Hiroshima 1994 Asian Games and now he is supporting us as a coach.
In Saudi Arabia we are focusing to the schoolboys and junior level which is the basic part of our sport. We have got of course elite boxers as well but we believe we will be able to get better results with our current schoolboys and juniors in the future. Personally I think our current junior team is strong technically but they need more experiences. We have to fight with the Saudi Arabian National Olympic Committee to approve our sport in the country and the religion makes our job hard all the time.
Currently I work in the Saudi Arabian Boxing Federation and we were able to launch our first ever development program with identified objectives. Here in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships our boxers lost to the bests but they did great fighting spirit in their first ever international competition. In spite of our losses our boxers arranged sparring with other teams to develop their skills here in Puerto Princesa.
We will be sending our elite boxers to Kazakhstan still this year and we hope we can join also to the 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. Saudi Arabia will be definitely there in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games,“
said Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib in the venue of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa.
