Philippines’ boxing official Mrs. Karina Picson is the Competition Manager of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa. Mrs. Karina Picson worked as Supervisor in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok and covering another continental event as official.
Mrs. Karina Picson, who has been working together with her husband Ed in the boxing world, shared us her thoughts about this event, their difficulties in the organization, her opinion about the upcoming events and the performance of the Filipino junior team in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships.
“I am really happy after the semi-finals of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships as all of the officials are satisfied with the hard work of the LOC. ASBC Executive Director Mr. Bagdaulet Turekhanov and the Supervisor of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships are satisfied therefore we are keep smiling and enjoying our successes after the semi-finals.
We were facing with several problems before the start of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships but we could fix many of our issues in the final minutes. The new official ring arrived to Puerto Princesa only on August 1 therefore we were all stressful in the LOC on those days.
We were planning to compete in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships here in Puerto Princesa with seven boxers. We had passport problems therefore our remaining three boxers were not able to compete in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships on home soil. Four of our boxers prepared in Thailand before the event and three athletes in their regions.
We had also visa issues to take the equipments to the Philippines which made our life busier than we expected. The Philippine Sports Commission supported us well with equipments and their Commissioner Mr. Ramon Fernandez was here in the venue of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships.
Hopefully our budget will be doubled in this new Tokyo 2020 Olympic era and we can use it to build up the grass roots level. Our ABAP President Mr. Ricky Vargas arrived to the venue today and luckily he could see our two boxers in the semi-finals who advanced to the gold medal bouts. Kenneth De La Pena and John Vincent Pangga advanced to the finals therefore our golden dreams are still alive.
We have to keep our focus also to our upcoming duties: the Southeast Asian Games and the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships,“
said Mrs. Karina Picson after the semi-finals of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships.
