Interview with Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira

Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira – We are building up a new generation in boxing
Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira is the Executive Committee Member of the Asian Boxing Confederation and President of the Thai Boxing Federation. We asked him to let us know his thoughts about the level of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and Thailand’s current boxing situation.
“The atmosphere of this ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships is great and 28 nations are here in Bangkok which is over our expectations. A lot of Asian nations developed well in the sport which means always harder to get medals in an ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. Uzbekistan arrived to Bangkok with a top team while Kazakhstan is always strong in our continent.
I hope the Asian boxers could do a big impact in the forthcoming Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships next month in Qatar. Thailand has got now only two medals but we are proud of them to reach that result but the championships has not been finished yet.
In all of the previous Olympic Games we had at least three quotas and we are planning to keep that level or improve a bit. Wuttichai Masuk is our biggest hope for an Olympic medal next year in Rio de Janeiro and we are curious to see Pachanya Longchin’s improvement who came from the Muay Thai boxing only some months ago. We have tried to develop our background and its result our current youth and junior team contains now 100 boxers and we hope they will be able to do their best in the elite level in the next Olympic era,” said Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira who is leading Thailand’s boxing life into a new and better direction.
