International Boxing Day celebrated in Pakistan with remarkable activities

The Pakistan Boxing Federation, led by its President Mr. Khalid Mehmood, conducted various activities to promote the sweet science in the country during the International Boxing Day last August 27.

Executive member Major Irfan Younis arranged a spectacular celebration at the Pakistan Army Sport Complex in Karachi graced by retired Pakistani boxing legend Mr. Muhammad Arshad Hussain as well as Olympians Mr. Sadaf Siddique and Mr. Sudebar Ahmad Ali together with over 70 Army boxers.

Exhibition bouts, distribution of boxing gloves to young aspirants, awareness campaigns and speeches about the importance of the special day were also organized by the federation.

The capital city of Kinshasa in Democratic Republic of Congo hosted the main festivities attended by International Boxing Association (IBA) President Mr. Umar Kremlev and Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira with world and Olympic champion Estelle Mossely as the special guest.

More than 50 countries across the world including other Asian nations Kazakhstan, India, Iran and Qatar hosted their own programs in celebration of the International Boxing Day.

Moved from July 22 to August 27 in 2021, the dedicated day for the sweet science marks the inaugural staging of the World Boxing Championships in Havana, Cuba back in 1974.
