Uzbekistan Boxing Federation elects new officers, Tillaboev named Secretary General

The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation named its new officers following the election during its recent General Assembly held at the National Olympic Committee in the capital city of Tashkent.

Mr. Shohid Tillaboev, previously appointed as executive director, was elected as the new secretary general while former State Customs Comittee chairman Mr. Akmalkhuja Mavlonov and ex-Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Vice-President Mr. Saken Polatov were voted as deputy chairman and first deputy chairman, respectively.

“I was elected to this responsible position and I will lead the Uzbek boxing community and our sport in the right direction. Firstly, this is an honour for me personally; secondly, it is a credit of trust. I will use all of my knowledge and experience to continue the winning path of our boxers in all of the age groups, categories and genders in the upcoming international championships,” he added.

Mr. Tillaboev also stressed the federation’s main goal of reclaiming the Olympic boxing title come the 2024 Paris Summer Games after ruling the 2016 Rio with a 3-2-2 gold-silver-bronze medal haul.

The seasoned boxing official said they will compete in significant competitions including the ASBC Asian Elite Championships this year, IBA Men’s World Championships which Tashkent will host next year, 2023 Asian Games and upcoming qualification events in the build-up to the Olympics.

Aside from the election, the General Assembly also touched on the achievements of the federation in the past four years, consideration of a new charter and approval of the logo.

Representatives of the regional departments, coaches, veterans, staff members and the media attended the significant meeting overseen by Mr. Adkham Ikramov, Minister of Uzbekistan Sports Development.

ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira lauded the Federation for the successful staging of its assembly and sent his congratulations to the newly-elected Uzbek boxing officials.
