Indonesia’s Endang is the surprise of the 2nd edition of the Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships
The second edition of the Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships was held in Nanning City in Guangxi, China which is a new event in the Asian boxing map. None of the titleholders defended their thrones in the event but Indonesia’s Endang, Singapore’s Mohamed Hanurdeen Bin Hamid and Philippines’ Marjon Pianar have done remarkable performance in Nanning.
Host China, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand attended in the 2018 Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships in Nanning City while Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam joined to them in the new second edition. The competition was held to promote boxing in the ASEAN region and give chance to the area’s women and men elite boxers to raise their international experiences.
The women boxers could take part in two weight classes at the flyweight (51kg) and at the lightweight (60kg) in Nanning City. The men athletes competed in six different categories from the light flyweight (49kg) up to the welterweight (69kg) at the 2nd edition of the Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships.
Indonesia’s Endang claimed the first gold medal of the Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships
Aldriani Beatrichx Suguro won the women’s flyweight (51kg) one year ago and another Indonesian have been crowned in the second edition of the Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships. Endang has got also strong international experiences as her teammate Suguro but her successes over Vietnam’s Nguyen Tram and Philippines’ Strandja Memorial Tournament silver medallist Irish Magno were over her previous level. Her compatriot Lucky Hari also succeeded and secured Indonesia’s second gold medal after beating China’s Chen Jianheng at the men’s bantamweight (56kg).
Host China earned three gold medal in Nanning City
China achieved three gold medals in the first edition of the Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships and their boxers repeated that performance again in the new second edition. Yang Xiaolan eliminated Philippines’ Riza Pasuit in the semi-finals of the women’s lightweight (60kg) and continued her winning path against Indonesia’s Erniati Ngongo. Yang Xiaolong was crowned in the final of the men’s light flyweight (49kg) following his narrow successes over Malaysia’s super talented teenager Muhammad Rasdenal Haikal and Laos’ No.1 Khamphouvanh Khamsathone. The host country’s third title was taken by Nie Zhixue at the men’s lightweight (60kg) where he defeated Indonesia’s veteran Julius Bria.
Singapore’s Mohamed Hanurdeen Bin Hamid won the title of the men’s flyweight (52kg)
Singapore has been preparing to the upcoming Southeast Asian Games as many of their neighbouring countries. According to their President and ASBC EC member Mr. Syed Abdul Kadir the country will be attending in the SEA Games with four boxers. Singapore’s former Youth Olympic Games competitor and SEA Games silver medallist Mohamed Hanurdeen Bin Hamid used strong tactic against Malaysia’s Muhamad Talib and Myanmar’s Zaw Myoe in the road to his gold of the men’s flyweight (52kg).
Philippines’ young talents won two weight classes in Nanning City
Jere Samuel De La Cruz is a 19-year-old talent who won the Philippine Youth National Games one year ago and received the right at the very first time to attend in an international elite event. The Filipino light welterweight (64kg) boxer was too strong for China’s Li Dicheng in the final crowning in the event. Marjon Pianar is another strong Filipino hope who turned to 20 and following his experiences in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament, he worked well enough in Nanning City achieving the second gold medal for the Philippines.
