Indonesia’s Bram Hendra Betaubun won a top contest in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup on Day1

The Ulaanbaatar Box Cup began with its first competition day in the Mongolian capital city where two sessions were held on Day1. Philippines, host Mongolia, DPR Korea and India delivered the best performance in the first competition day while Indonesia’s Bram Hendra Betaubun has done the biggest sensation in the first session.
The competition is holding in the currently three Olympic women’s weight classes at the flyweight (51kg), lightweight (60kg) and middleweight (75kg). Furthermore the men boxers will be able to box in seven weight categories from the light flyweight (49kg) up to the middleweight (75kg).
Philippines’ Judelyn Casin is a new national team member but the young talent was confident in her opening contest in Ulaanbaatar. The Filipino women’s flyweight (51kg) boxer had to meet with Bhutan’s 20-year-old Tandin Lhamo who has done a historical debut for her country in the international level. Casin won their contest by unanimous decision but Bhutan’s young pride proved she has got potential in the future.
Philippines’ another woman talent Riza Pasuit involved to the national squad in 2015 but this was the very first time when she competed at the lightweight (60kg). The 24-year-old Filipino talent used her strength and speed to beat Indonesia’s Viska Defri Bambuta in the first round of this women’s weight class.
Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist and Rio 2016 Olympian Chen Nien Chin had to meet in the first round with another gold medal contender at the women’s middleweight (75kg), DPR Korea’s Pak Un Sim. Taiwan’s young national hero had effective combinations in the bout and won it closely by split decision.
Mongolia’s Damdindorj Munkh-Erdene is not the country’s best light flyweight (49kg) boxer but he exceeded the expectations when he was able to beat DPR Korea’s Kim Jang Sung in a hectic contest in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup. Chinese Taipei’s FISU University World Boxing Championships silver medallist Tu Po Wei returned to the national squad and began the event with an impressive success.
DPR Korea’s Jo Hyo Nam is only 19 but he claimed silver medal at the Thailand International Invitational Tournament in Bangkok two and half months ago. The North Korean bantamweight (56kg) boxer won all of the rounds against Mongolia’s Oyunbileg Munkhsaikhan and advanced to the next stage of the event.
India’s Strandja Memorial Tournament silver medallist Mohammed Hussamuddin regained his place in the national squad and began his campaign in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup with a success against Kyrgyzstan’s 22-year-old Almambet Alibekov. The Indian bantamweight (56kg) boxer won their spectacular fight by unanimous decision.
DPR Korea’s Choe Chol Man is a new national team member who has done his international debut in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup but he proved his technician skills in the opening bout. Choe had to meet with Chinese Taipei’s No.1 Rio 2016 Olympian Lai Chu En but his effective combinations delivered for him a surprise success.
Indonesia’s Bram Hendra Betaubun joined to the national team in the recent months and he won a contest also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent as well. The Indonesian middleweight (75kg) boxer attacked from the first seconds against Mongolia’s Telukhan Ibraim and delivered another small surprise with his success.
