India’s Lovlina Borgohain – When I began my boxing career I had a dream to represent India in an Olympic Games which I could reach it

India’s welterweight (69kg) boxer Lovlina Borgohain qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which was held in Amman, Jordan. The 23-year-old Indian girl shared us her thoughts about the Qualifying Event and the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Indian boxer competed in various junior and youth events until 2015 and joined to the elite national team in 2017. Borgohain claimed bronze medals in the 2018 and 2019 editions of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships which were their previous career highlights from New Delhi and Ulan-Ude.

“To qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games means a lot for me, not so easy to tell it in words. When I began my boxing career I had a dream to represent India in an Olympic Games which gave me huge motivation in the working days. I could realize my targets in the Qualification Event and I am very happy that I will be able to attend in an Olympic Games.

We worked many things to develop my tactical skills with my coaches and my height and longer reach were the key factors to win my fights in the Qualifier. I felt confident myself in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event and I could show my skills well enough following the rigorous training with our coaches. I am expecting a very tough competition in the Tokyo Olympic Games and I guess all of the qualified boxers will be in top shape in the event. I will try my best to get a gold medal for my country but all of the girls are very experienced and tough in my weight class and some of them have unique technique as well,” explained Lovlina Borgohain about her feelings following to get the spot for Tokyo.
