India’s experienced sensation Vikas Krishan Yadav – I am preparing only for the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games

India earned nine quota places for the Tokyo Olympic Games which has been postponed by the IOC beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021. One of their top boxers Vikas Krishan Yadav qualified for his third Olympic Games and following his experiences in London and in Rio de Janeiro, he can compete also in Tokyo.

The 28-year-old Indian was Asian Games winner and AIBA Youth World Champion in 2010, claimed bronze at the 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships and achieved several medals in the ASBC events. Krishan returned from the professional world and moved down to the welterweight (69kg) which was one of his most successful categories during his career and impressed at the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

“I turned to professional after the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and my power is now lot more than these guys who I met in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. The Qualification Tournament was just a step forward for me in the road to the gold medal of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

I felt that the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event was very easy for me and many of my opponents were weaker than me. My dream in my childhood was to compete in an Olympic Games and Tokyo will be my third one.

I am spending my time with my family now, this is the recovery period for me and I welcomed the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus. We all have to pray for the Coronavirus patients who have been infected worldwide.

Many of the experts told me that I have good chance to get a medal in the Olympic Games but my target is the gold. I am preparing only for the gold medal in Tokyo, nothing else matter for me,” said India’s experienced Vikas Krishan Yadav who returned to the national team after a short break.
