India’s boxing icon six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Mary Kom is aiming for a new title in the upcoming Ulan-Ude edition

The Indian female team is ready to impress in the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships where several of their boxers are medal favourites. The AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be held in Ulan-Ude, Russia which is located near to the Mongolian boarder. The Indian team contains the most successful female boxer of the whole globe, six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte.
India hosted the Guwahati 2017 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships and the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships where their female hopes claimed several medals. The Indians were one of the pioneers in women’s boxing and since the 2001 Scranton edition, their female boxers claimed medals and titles.
The Italian head coach of the Indian women’s team Mr. Raffaele Bergamasco selected maximum number of 10 boxers following their National Trials which was held in New Delhi. India attended in the Bangkok ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in April where their female boxers claimed medals and title as well. The Indian boxers competed in several international tournaments this year throughout the European and Asian continents.
The Indian team changed in seven places in comparison to their line-ups in the last New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Manju Rani achieved silver medal in the Strandja Memorial Tournament and defeated Monika in the final of the National Trials which means the 20-year-old talent will be representing India at the light flyweight (49kg).
Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte is not only India’s boxing icon but the most successful female boxer in the whole globe who claimed her sixth AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships title in New Delhi one year ago. Mary Kom moved up to the flyweight (51kg) due the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and defeated all of her top local rivals this year in this new category.
Jamuna Boro defeated Shiksha in the National Trials which means the Indonesian President’s Cup gold medallist 22-year-old talent will be attending at the bantamweight (54kg) in Ulan-Ude. Haryana’s Neeraj had a successful mission in the final of the National Trials and defeated Manisha Moun once again following the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament and aiming for a medal at the featherweight (57kg) in Ulan-Ude.
Former AIBA Women’s World Champion Sarita Devi Laishram won her eighth medal from the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships this April. The 37-year-old veteran was better in the National Trials than 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Simranjit Kaur and highly motivated to win a medal at the lightweight (60kg).
Madhya Pradesh’s Manju Bamboriya became the surprise of the National Trials who defeated AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Ankushita Boro and fought out her place in the national team. Lovlina Borgohain was bronze medallist in the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and over 110 bouts in her career, she is a podium contender at the welterweight (69kg) once again.
Former AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Saweety Boora defeated Pooja Rani at the middleweight (75kg) of the National Trials. Chandigarh’s 19-year-old Nandini Thakur won the final of the Trials against Lalfakmawi and will be making her debut in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Heavyweight (+81kg) veteran Kavita Chahal regained her place in the national team and defeated young Neha Yadav in the final of the National Trials.
