Hussamuddin and Latypov claimed silver medals in the 71st Strandja Memorial Tournament

The exciting finals were held in the 71st Strandja Memorial Tournament which is one of the strongest elite competitions since many years and Bulgaria’s top event.  India’s Mohamed Hussamuddin and Bahrain’s Denys Latypov both achieved silver medals in the tough Strandja Memorial Tournament.

The 71st edition of the Strandja Memorial Tournament was a small world event with 34 nations on the board from four different Confederations. Among the best boxing nations of the world Russia, United States of America, India, Ireland, Brazil, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, France, Ukraine, Morocco, Romania, Poland and many others are there in Sofia.

India’s strong Mohamed Hussamuddin claimed silver medal already at the 2017 edition of the Strandja Memorial Tournament which was one of his first ever international competitions. The 26-year-old bantamweight (57kg) boxer returned to Sofia and defeated excellent boxers during his road to the final including Belgium’s Vasile Usturoi while Ukraine’s Mykola Butsenko was unable to box against him in the last four. Hussamuddin walker over to the final of the Strandja Memorial Tournament where he met for the title with Italy’s Francesco Maietta. The Indian boxer was a hard target for the Italian in the opening minute of the final and he looked hungry for the success. Hussamuddin received more punches in the second part of the bout and repeated his silver medal which he earned in 2017.

Denys Latypov is Bahrain’s best boxer who is aiming for a place in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and this is the reason of his nationality change. The former Russian WSB boxer advanced to the semi-finals of the Strandja Memorial Tournament where he had a surprise success over France’s Minsk 2019 European Games silver medallist Mourad Aliev. Latypov became the first finalist in a top international tournament from Bahrain but he tried to do his best to reach the top of the podium against Ukraine’s Tsotne Rogava. Latypov was patient in the first round against the Georgian-descent Ukrainian boxer and tried to find the best attacking angles. Bahrain’s southpaw had close defense in the first round but Rogava increased his tempo in the second round and his tough punches reached the target. Rogava’s final round was the best in the title bout therefore Latypov claimed silver medal in Sofia.
