Huang, Petecio and Dou are the Asian gold medallist in the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships

The last day of boxing have been held at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia where three Asian boxers won the titles of the competition. Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao Wen, Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio and China’s Dou Dan are the new AIBA Women’s World Champions from our continent.
Altogether 17 Asian boxers from eight different nations advanced to the last four out of the 40 medallists in Ulan-Ude and among them seven joined to the finals and three became champions. China, DPR Korea, India, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam earned medals in the event among the Asian countries.
Altogether 76 strong Asian elite female boxers are attending in the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships from 13 nations: China, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao Wen won her first elite World title in Ulan-Ude
Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien Chin and Lin Yu Ting claimed gold medals in the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and their third star Huang Hsiao Wen reached the top of the podium in Ulan-Ude. Huang achieved silver medal in the Taipei 2015 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships and following four years of strong experiences in the elite level, she advanced to the final of the bantamweight (54kg) at the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Huang eliminated India’s Jamuna Boro in the semi-final and met for the gold with France’s Caroline Cruveillier who has the similar style of boxing. Huang was a hard target for the EUBC European U22 Champion French boxer and her long distance tactic paid off in the day of the finals.

Philippines’ No.1 Nesthy Petecio changed her previous silver into gold medal at the featherweight (57kg)
Philippines’ best female boxer Nesthy Petecio was involved to the national team 10 years ago at the age of 17 and following nearly 100 international contests, she reached her career highlight in Ulan-Ude with a gold medal. Petecio claimed silver medal in the Jeju 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships therefore she was able to handle the situation and the pressure. Petecio eliminated England’s new sensation Karriss Artingstall in the semi-final and started strongly for the gold medal with Russia’s local boxer Liudmilla Vorontsova. Petecio used a different rhythm than her Russian Ulan-Ude-based opponent and won the title of the featherweight (57kg) in the competition.

China’s Dou Dan defended her throne in Ulan-Ude
China’s experienced Dou Dan is the defending AIBA Women’s World Champion at the light welterweight (64kg) who had confident successes during her road to the final in Ulan-Ude. The Chinese boxer fought for the title against Italy’s Angela Carini who was silver medallist in the EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships and moved down one category. The Chinese boxer moved back one step before her counter-punches and landed effective jabs already in the first round. The Italian stepped into the best Chinese fighting distance and received several punches in the second round. Dou Dan had another impressive in the third and dominated their final with her long distance punches which means she defended her throne in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.
