Highlights of the ASBC National Federations – Palestine claimed important medals in 2002 and in 2019

The Asian Boxing Confederation introduces the best moments of its affiliated Asian National Federations launching a new PR campaign, the Highlights of the ASBC National Federations. Palestine’s Mounir Abukeshek claimed bronze medal at the Busan 2002 Asian Games while their next generation’s teenager Zaid Shkokani also bagged bronze in the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships.

Palestine never competed in any boxing events at the Olympic Games yet but one of their long-term strategies mentions to make this historical step happen. Palestine’s best boxer in the 2000s Mounir Abukeshek, Hamed Shahid and Osama Alzig competed in the qualification events before the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Their boxers did not succeed but joined to the international boxing map.

Palestine claimed one bronze medal in the history of the boxing events of the Asian Games which is one of their highlights. Mounir Abukeshek has done his debut in the Bangkok 1998 Asian Games but four years later he achieved bronze in Busan, South Korea. He lost to South Korea’s Choi Ki Soo in the semi-finals of the light heavyweight (81kg) but his success in 2002 became his career highlight.

Qassim Abudabaat delivered their first impressive success in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Tashkent in 2017. Palestine’s middleweight (75kg) boxer knocked out Sri Lanka’s Sampath Kumara and he has written his nation’s next historical step.

Palestine’s future hope Zaid Shkokani is only 14 but he has got several international experiences from 2019 and could be a future star in the upcoming Asian events. He was only 13 one and half year ago when he claimed a historical bronze medal at the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships. He defeated Kuwait’s Abdullah Rashed and only eventual winner India’s Yashwardhan Singh was able to stop him.

Currently the junior age group is the strongest division in Palestine, all of their talents have got international bouts during their career which is the strong result of their strategic developments. Bashar Soufan was in the Top8 at the 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Fujairah while ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships competitor Karam Elsaqqa, Jadd Rajab and Waseem Mohamed Abusal all are experienced national team members who are chasing for their highlights in the next Olympic era.
