Gylychjanov and Odayev defended their thrones in the Turkmenistan Youth National Championships

The Turkmenistan Youth National Boxing Championships was held for their young hopes in the city of Mary and at the very first time women boxers were also able to box in the event. Among their bests Yhlas Gylychjanov and Saparmyrat Odayev defended their thrones after the 2017 edition in the Turkmenistan Youth Boxing National Championships where 16-year-old Arslan Kurbanov delivered the main sensation.
Mary is a historical city in Turkmenistan formerly known as Merv which was an important oasis on the Silk Road in the middle ages. The capital city of Ashgabat claimed five gold medals, Lebap region three, Balkan region and Dashoguz region both took two first places while host Mary achieved one title.
The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships will be taking place in Bangkok, Thailand and the winners have got good chance to represent Turkmenistan in the Qualifiers in April. Altogether 6 women and 121 men boxers competed in the Turkmenistan Youth National Championships to get the medals and titles.
Turkmenistan had women’s boxing life in 2009 and in 2010 but after several years of break female boxers could fight in the 2017 National Cup. Following that competition their younger talents also competed in three weight classes in the Youth National Championships in Mary. M. Yoldasova (51kg), S. Allaberdiyeva (54kg) and S. Atayeva (57kg) won the three weight classes in the female part of the competition.
Yhlas Gylychjanov was the titleholder in the Turkmenistan Youth National Championships at the light flyweight (49kg) and the 18-year-old boxer was able to defend his throne. The Balkan region’s boxer defeated strong opponents as Davut Babayev and Akmuhammet Rozyyev in the final stages of the national event.
Turkmenistan’s Junior National Champion Dayanch Orazmuhammedov was born in 2001 and joined to the youth age group only in January but his victory over Youth National Championships silver medallist Kovus Kovusov was a deserved success at the flyweight (52kg). The bantamweight (56kg) gold medal has gone to Atajan Hudayberdiyev who defeated Panzha Panzhiyev in the final.
Seventeen boxers attended at the lightweight (60kg) which saw the biggest sensation of the whole competition. Arslan Shamyradov was born in 2000 but he competed in the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in 2015 while he reached his career highlight in the Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk, Russia in 2016 when he achieved a valuable bronze medal. Following several national titles Shamyradov lost his final to a younger opponent Arslan Kurbanov of Ashgabat in the final of the category.
Balkan region’s Saparmyrat Odayev was successful in the schoolboys and junior events in the recent years and he joined to the youth age group in 2017 when he won rapidly their Youth National Championships. The 17-year-old Saparmyrat Odayev has got international experiences but he needed to do his very best to beat Junior National Champion Shukur Ovezov in the final of the light welterweight (64kg).
Junior National Champion Ezizmuhammet Pazzyyev of Ashgabat came from a boxing family, all of his elder brothers including London 2012 Olympian Nursahat are boxers therefore his success at the welterweight (69kg) was not a surprise. Ashgabat’s Teymur Annageldiyev claimed bronze medal at the middleweight (75kg) in the last edition but this time he was able to catch the gold beating Arif Rashidov in the final.
Lebap region’s Alizhan Suvhanov won his first title at the 2016 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships and bagged his second one after defeating Mashat Mashadov of Ashgabat in the final of the light heavyweight (81kg). Baymurad Ishanov was gold medallist in the 2016 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships and after that success he claimed his next title at the heavyweight (91kg).
