Four Olympians represent Team Jordan at the AIBA World Boxing Championships

The head coach of the Jordanian national team and their management decided to send four boxers to the AIBA World Boxing Championships. All of the four boxers competed in the Tokyo Olympic Games and they are members of the national team since several years.

Jordan impressed in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman on March 2020 and five of their boxers qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Among these experienced boxers only Hussein Iashaish was able to win one bout and advanced to the quarter-final where he was stopped by Brazil’s Abner Junior Teixeira.

Jordan competed in the last edition of the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships where two of their boxers reached the quarter-finals. Jordan missed the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships but their coach Mr. Andriy Proskurnin decided to send the team to Belgrade.

Jordan registered more boxers but finally four of them can travel to Serbia’s capital to win the country’s historical medal. Their Obada Al-Kasbeh joined to the national team in 2012 and claimed two silver medals in the history of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, firstly in 2013, secondly in 2019. The experienced boxer qualified also for the Rio 2016 and the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games and will represents Team Jordan at the light welterweight (63.5kg) in Belgrade.

Zeyad Eshaish robbed into the world of boxing in 2016 when he was only 18 and he needed only two years of international experiences to take a bronze medal at the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games. The welterweight (67kg) boxer won the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event on home soil but he was not able to use his good draw in Tokyo. Eshaish returns to the international stage in Belgrade and the 23-year-old boxer has the potential to reach a career highlight.

Odai Riyad Al-Hindawi claimed a surprise silver medal at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games but after that he had several poor years in the international events. The experienced light heavyweight (80kg) boxer returned in good shape at the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event and he had the right to compete in Tokyo.

Hussein Iashaish competed first at the 2012 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Yerevan and since then he achieved three bronze medals in the history of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. The currently 26-year-old heavyweight (92kg) boxer, who dictates impressive rhythm during his contests, was quarter-finalist in both of his Olympic appearances in Rio de Janeiro and also in Tokyo.
