Five Asian boxers advanced to the finals of the prestigious Golden Girl Box Cup in Sweden

The 10th anniversary edition of the Golden Girl Box Cup continued with its second competition day in Boras, Sweden where altogether 254 boxers from 22 nations are competing for the medals. Chinese Taipei and Thailand sent boxers to the 10th edition of the Golden Girl Box Cup at the very first time in the history of the competition and among their talents five advanced to the finals.
Thailand’s 17-year-old Nillada Meekoon claimed silver medal in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships and also in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. Thailand’s top talent is still in the youth age group in 2019 and proved her top skills in the quarter-final of the light flyweight (48kg) when she eliminated France’s Rim Bennama. Thailand’s pride found the best attacking moments against Spain’s Maria Angeles Gonzales and controlled her semi-final in Boras. Her triumph means that the dream final against Ireland’s EUBC European Women’s Youth Champion Daina Moorehouse has realized in the Golden Girl Box Cup.
Thailand’s Youth Olympic Games winner Panpatchara Somnuek moved ahead from the first seconds against Denmark’s Sascha Bogeskov and following her clear combinations the referee counted the European boxer in the opening round. The 17-year-old Thai talent landed high number of jabs in the second round as well and dominated their fight in Boras. Asia’s youth No.1 Somnuek stepped into the gas in the third once again and the referee stopped their contest before the final gong.
Thailand’s Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Porntip Buapa is the defending ASBC Asian Women’s Youth Champion but she started not so good enough against Finland’s Vilma Viitanen who was quarter-finalist in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships. The 18-year-old Thai youth lightweight (60kg) boxer raised her level in the second round but her top European rival was able to beat her in Boras.
Chinese Taipei’s best youth boxer Huang Yu Ting eliminated a defending champion France’s Lorye Ruyer in the quarter-final of the lightweight (60kg) on Day1. The 17-year-old Huang used her impressive footwork also in the semi-final of the category against another top European opponent Sweden’s Thelma Sagerfeldt-Eskilsson who won the Silesian Women’s Open Junior Tournament last September. The Swedish boxer was competitive for Huang but she was able to land more punches than her rival and advanced to the final in Boras.
Chinese Taipei’s defending AIBA Women’s World Champion at the welterweight (69kg) Chen Nien Chin opened her campaign in the Golden Girl Box Cup and she looked confident from the first seconds against Sweden’s Marianna Ahlborg. The 21-year-old Chen, who was Olympian in Rio de Janeiro, used her technical and tactical advantages in their semi-final in Boras. Chen controlled all of the rounds with her confident style and advanced to the final of the competition.
