Meekoon and Huang started strongly in the Golden Girl Box Cup in Sweden

The 10th anniversary edition of the Golden Girl Box Cup has started in Boras, Sweden with its first competition day where Asian boxers are also attending in the competition. Altogether 254 boxers from 22 nations are competing for the medals in Boras where Thailand’s youth talent Nillada Meekoon and Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yu Ting started their campaigns with top performance.
Chinese Taipei and Thailand sent boxers to the 10th edition of the Golden Girl Box Cup at the very first time in the history of the competition. Chinese Taipei’s defending AIBA Women’s World Champion at the welterweight (69kg) Chen Nien Chin is also attending in the event and will be fighting on Saturday.
Thailand’s Nillada Meekoon claimed silver medal in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships and also in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. Thailand’s top talent is still in the youth age group in 2019 and she has got great targets this year as well.
Meekoon had to meet in the quarter-final of the light flyweight (48kg) with France’s Rim Bennama whose elder brother Billal is member of the French elite team. The 17-year-old Thai talent moved ahead from the first seconds and tried to box her style and tactic against the competitive European rival. Meekoon looked more confident in the second round and took the lead in each scorecard. Bennama was a hard target in the third round but Meekoon did enough to beat her French opponent in Boras.
Chinese Taipei’s best youth boxer Huang Yu Ting had to fight in the quarter-final of the lightweight (60kg) where she had to meet with France’s Lorye Ruyer who won the Golden Girl Box Cup in the junior age group one year ago. The 17-year-old Huang moved more on feet than her French opponent in the first round and landed a few good shots as well. Chinese Taipei’s future hope impressed against such strong European rival and eliminated Ruyer by split decision in Boras.
