Enkhmandakh and Enkh-Amar claimed gold medals for the Kharkhuu family at the Ahmet Comert Tournament

The prestigious Ahmet Comert Tournament was held in the capital city of Turkey where boxers from the European, African and Asian continents attended for the medals. The Mongolians attended in the traditionally strong tournament with their best boxers and claimed three gold medals in Istanbul.

The Ahmet Comert Tournament was held in five female and eight male weight classes in Istanbul and six nations shared the gold medals. Iran and Kazakhstan also sent strong teams to the Ahmet Comert Tournament among the Asian nations besides to the Mongolians and achieved high number of medals in Istanbul. The event was held in five competition days due the high number of female and male participants.

Mongolia’s first gold medal was achieved by Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu who claimed several medals in the international events in 2019. The 23-year-old Mongolian flyweight (52kg) boxer continued his developments in the Ahmet Comert Tournament where he not only advanced to the final but claimed the gold in Turkey. Kharkhuu has got tough jabs in the smallest male weight class and those paid off in the final against Iran’s Omid Ahmadisafa.

Enkhmandakh’s teammate Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu won the gold medal at the 2013 Summer Universiade and qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In the current Olympic era he won bronze medal at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and arrived to Istanbul in top form. His final opponent was an Asian at the bantamweight (57kg) but he managed to win that difficult fight against Kazakhstan’s 2017 ASBC Asian Youth Champion Samatali Toltayev.

Mongolia’s third gold medal was an unexpected result in the Ahmet Comert Tournament which delivered by Otgonbaatar Byamba-Erdene who competed at the middleweight (75kg) at the very first time. The 23-year-old boxer is a new addition in this category but he impressed in the semi-finals against Turkey’s No.1 Serhat Guler. Following that success, he continued his winning path in the final as well and defeated an Asian hope, Akzhol Abdikhan of Kazakhstan producing the top sensation of the last competition day. The Mongolians girls achieved also two silver medals in the Ahmet Comert Tournament in Turkey where Shinetsetseg Uranbileg (69kg) and Munkhbat Myagmarjargal (75kg) were finalists. Besides to Omid Ahmadisafa, two further Iranians advanced to the finals of the Ahmet Comert Tournament but both of them as Moslem Majsodi (69kg) and Tofan Sharifi (91kg) claimed silver medals in Istanbul.
