Eight U22 boxers earned their gold medals at the Kazakhstan Men’s Elite National Championships

The thirteen exciting finals took place in the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation’s Men’s Elite National Championships which was held in the city of Uralsk. Eight out of the thirteen winners are members of the U22 age group and 18-year-old Sanzhar Tashkenbay became the youngest gold medallist.

Kazakhstan was the best Asian nation at the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia two months ago. Temirtas Zhussupov and Saken Bibossynov bagged gold medals in Belgrade, Makhmud Sabyrkhan and Serik Temirzhanov both earned silver while Ablaikhan Zhussupov took his third bronze. All of them received the right to rest and missed the Kazakhstan Men’s Elite National Championships.

The head coach of the men’s elite national team, Mr. Kayrat Satzhanov followed all of the contests and the performance of their young boxers. The Kazakhstan National Championships is also important for them to select the best hopes for the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships which will be held in Tashkent on January 20-30.

The Kazakhstan Men’s Elite National Championships have been scheduled in the official 13 weight divisions in Uralsk: minimumweight (48kg), flyweight (51kg), bantamweight (54kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (63.5kg), welterweight (67kg), light middleweight (71kg), middleweight (75kg), light heavyweight (80kg), cruiserweight (86kg), heavyweight (92kg) and super heavyweight (+92kg).

In the absence of the AIBA World Champion Temirtas Zhussupov, two young stars met in the final of the minimumweight (48kg). Defending AIBA Youth World Champion 18-year-old Sanzhar Tashkenbay was slightly better than Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Daniyal Sabit and won the first gold medal. Almaty region’s 22-year-old Damir Abdykadyr won the men’s flyweight (51kg) after beating Kuanysh Duisenbay and Nursultan Nuridenov.

Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships competitor Talgat Syrymbetov proved his strong development and the 20-year-old boxer won the title of the bantamweight (54kg) following his narrow success over Olzhas Bayniyazov. The featherweight (57kg) was the next difficult category where Orazbek Assylkulov won his first elite national title after beating Aidos Arapov while young stars as Biybars Zheksen and Yerbolat Sabyr earned only bronze medals.

Karagandy region’s Vasiliy Samchuk earned excellent youth results in the year of 2016 and after five years of elite experienced he defeated national team members as ASBC Asian Youth Champion Samatali Toltayev and Adilet Kurmetov at the lightweight (60kg) causing big surprises. Samatali’s twin brother, Sanatali also lost his semi-final, former WSB boxer, Dilmurat Mizhitov bowed him out at the light welterweight (63.5kg) and following that the 26-year-old boxer defeated also teenage hope Abzal Serik of Shymkent.

The welterweight (67kg) is always strong in Kazakhstan and the category delivered another unexpected results and 26-year-old Dulat Bekbauov won the title this time. He had strong youth year in 2013 but since then he was not able to repeat that performance until the Uralsk event where he defeated Daulet Nysan and also Almaty region’s Darkhan Duisebay. AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Yermakhan Zhakpekov earned his first elite national title and defeated Pavlodar region’s experienced Kuan Kuatov.

Atyrau region’s Nurkanat Raiys represented Kazakhstan in the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships and the 21-year-old middleweight (75kg) boxer defeated his main rivals as Dias Molzhigitov and Ayatulla Takizhanov. AIBA Youth World Champion Nurbek Oralbay walked over to the final of the light heavyweight (80kg) where he defeated Zhanibek Kartbayev. The first ever cruiserweight (86kg) title was earned by two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion Sagyndyk Togambay who defeated Madi Amirov.

Nurbek’s twin brother, Youth Olympic Games winner Aibek Oralbay was too strong for all if his opponents including Istanbul Bosphorus International Tournament winner veteran Abzal Kuttybekov at the heavyweight (92kg). The super heavyweight (+92kg) title was earned by AIBA World Boxing Championships competitor Nurlan Saparbay of Turkestan region who defeated U22 hopes as Damir Toybay of Almaty and Amanat Sabyrgali of Atyrau region.
