Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Women’s World Champion Huang Hsiao Wen – Tokyo will be my first Olympic Games

Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao Wen has done superb performance in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman and qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Her success is the development of Chinese Taipei’s boxing life, the hard work of their coaches and staff, and the strategy which they followed continuously in the recent years.

Huang Hsiao Wen joined to the international events as a junior still in 2013 and reached her first highlight in 2014 when she qualified for the Youth Olympic Games. Huang competed in different weight classes in the recent years but the bantamweight (54kg) was her best one and she won that at the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She moved down to the flyweight (51kg) in time to get top results in Amman which guaranteed a ticket for her to Tokyo.

“I had to choose a new category to attend in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman. My original division is the bantamweight (54kg) but my only option was to attend at the flyweight (51kg) in Amman which is an official weight category for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

It was a big challenge for me, not only the competition but controlling my weight and physical condition during the whole Qualifying Event. I am very happy that I succeeded in Amman where I found that my height is a big advantage against my opponents therefore I tried to keep them long.

The atmosphere of the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event was excellent in Amman and all countries arrived to Jordan in top shape. They all wanted to get Olympic tickets in the event therefore I think the level was such high in my weight class. This is my first time participating in the Olympic Games and all of my family members were proud of me. I have a lot of anticipation and excitement for the Olympic Games. I have been preparing at home during these difficult days and although the space is small but basic training is still possible for me,” said Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Women’s World Champion Huang Hsiao Wen after the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.
