Teenage heroes in the Chinese Taipei National Olympic Team Trials
Chinese Taipei hosted the National Olympic Team Trials in the capital city of the country in Taipei where ten champions have been crowned. The big women trio who were excellent in the AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior World Boxing Championships in 2013 and in 2015 such as Lin Yu Ting, Huang Hsiao Wen and Chen Nien Chin all will be there in the AIBA Asian & Oceania Olympic Qualifiers following their excellent performance.
The winners of the National Olympic Team Trials can take part in the 2016 AIBA Asian & Oceania Olympic Qualifiers in Qianan, China on March. Their three women winners are big hopes for Chinese Taipei, their average age is only 19 but they have got also enough experiences in the international level.
AIBA Youth World Champion Lin Yu Ting turned to 20 in the end of last year and she is now ready to do big things in the elite level. Lin was involved to the national squad in 2012 and has got enough experiences in the international competitions as well. Chinese Taipei’s young hope defeated Wu Shu Fen in the final of the Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg) which guarantees for her a place in the national squad in 2016.
AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Huang Hsiao Wen won the gold medal at the Balkan Women’s Tournament in Bulgaria two months ago and joined to the elite age group in 2016. The 18-year-old Huang defeated in the final of the Lightweight class (60 kg) national team member Chen Mei Ling who took part in the recent AIBA and ASBC competitions. Huang competed in the 51 kg and 54 kg weight classes but now she is Chinese Taipei’s Lightweight class (60 kg) No.1.
Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games silver medallist and AIBA Junior World Champion Chen Nien Chin is the best Middleweight class (75 kg) boxer in Chinese Taipei and a big talent all over the globe. The 18-year-old Chen Nien Chin will be there in the AIBA Asian & Olympic Qualifiers on March and also in the Astana 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships on May.
AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships competitor Tu Po Wei competed well in the junior and youth age groups and will be turning to 19 only later this year but currently he is Chinese Taipei’s best Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg) boxer. Tu Po Wei defeated Lin Hung Ta in the final of the National Olympic Trials and won his first elite title.
AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Jan Chun Hsien is also a new elite boxer in Chinese Taipei following his junior and youth career. Chinese Taipei’s first ever medallist in an AIBA men event triumphed over Lin Yu Ting in the final of the Flyweight class (52 kg) and will have the chance to box in the main events of 2016.
Lin Sheng Ling competed in the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok and his experiences in the international level were enough to beat Kao Shih Yen in the semi-finals and Lin Yu Chun in the gold medal bout of the Bantamweight class (56 kg). The Lightweight class (60 kg) gold medal went to National Games winner Lai Chu En who defeated Hung Chia Ching in the final of the National Olympic Trials.
AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships competitor 19-year-old Pan Hung Ming triumphed over Huang Chao Cheng in the final of the Light Welterweight class (64 kg) who became the third teenage winner among the men boxers. Huang Chi Wen was too strong for Liang Yu Wei and won his first title in the elite level.
In the absence of Chinese Taipei’s best man boxer ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Yang Yu Ting, a new face Kan Chia Wei won the gold medal at the Men’s Middleweight class (75 kg). He defeated national team member and ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships competitor Yeh Chin An in the semi-finals and Wu Yi Hsiu in the gold medal bout.
