Bibossinov, Tashkenbay banner star-studded Kazakhstan in ASBC elite meet

Reigning world champion Saken Bibossinov and Youth World Champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay will lead the formidable Kazakhstan men’s national team for the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 set on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.

Bibossinov, the AIBA World Championships flyweight (51kg) titleholder and Tokyo Olympics 2020 bronze medalist, is hell-bent on conquering the Asian Championships this time after settling for bronze last year in Dubai.

AIBA Youth World winner Tashkenbay replaced defending world titlist and veteran Temirtas Zhussupov as the 19-year-old rising pug aims to make a name for himself in the minimumweight (48kg) division.

Two-time Asian youth champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan and fellow world silver finisher Serik Termizhanov will compete in the bantamweight (54kg) and featherweight (57kg) classes, respectively.

Also in the national squad are the Oralbay twins Nurbek (light heavy-80kg) and Aibek (heavy-92kg), who won golds in Youth World Championships and Youth Olympic Games in 2018, as well as multiple Asian and world silver medalist Kamshybek Kunkabayev (super heavy-+92kg).

The Kazakh male boxers are out for redemption in the Asian elite tilt this year after missing out on a gold medal in the previous edition.

Head coach Mr. Kayrat Satzhanov and the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation sent their best boxers to the Strandja Memorial Tournament, Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament and other international tourneys in preparation for the major competition in Amman.
