Battumur Misheelt defeated Erdenebat Tsendbaatar and caused the main sensation of the Mongolian Men’s Elite National Championships

Following the women’s finals, the best 13 male boxers celebrated their titles in the Mongolian Elite National Championships where 200 female and male boxers competed for the 25 gold medals. Battumur Misheelt moved back to the light welterweight (63.5kg) and he caused the main sensation of the men’s finals, beating two-time ASBC Asian Champion and Asian Games winner Erdenebat Tsendbaatar in the final.

The Mongolians earned three gold medals at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships last May which was their best performance since the 2007 edition. The Mongolian boxers missed to get any medals in the Belgrade 2021 AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships but their boxers won several key contests in the Serbian capital.

Following to the girls, 135 elite male boxers attended in the National Championships from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg). There were more than 10 participants in seven divisions and the welterweight (67kg) was the most popular with 15 boxers in action. Eleven boxers competed at the super heavyweight (+92kg) which is record in the history of the National Championships.

Sukh-Erdene Enkhbaatar claimed the first gold medal of the Mongolian Men’s Elite National Championships, he defeated Aldarkhishig Battulga in the final of the minimumweight (48kg), while the main favourite, Orkhontungalag Unubold lost his quarter-final bout. Experienced national team member Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu eliminated his biggest national rival, ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag already in the semi.-finals of the flyweight (51kg). Following that narrow success, Kharkhuu dominated the final against Oyun-Erdene Enkhsaikhan winning the bout by RSC.

AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Enkhzorigt Sukhbat was the main gold medal contender at the bantamweight (54kg) but he had a surprise loss to Bilguunsaikhan Kharkhuu in the last four. His opponent was not able to take the title of the weight category as he suffered a loss to a youngster, Dorjnyambuu Ganbold in the final. Olympian veteran and ASBC Asian Elite Champion Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu bagged the title of the featherweight (57kg) after beating Enkh-Amgalan Bayarsaikhan.

Two young hopes met in the final of the lightweight (60kg) and among them the older Bayarkhuu Buyandalai was able to beat Tegshjargal Enkhtur in a super final. Mongolia’s best male boxer, Jakarta 2018 Asian Games winner and two-time ASBC Asian Champion Erdenebat Tsendbaatar returned to the competitions at the light welterweight (63.5kg) but finally he claimed only silver medal. His loss to Battumur Misheelt was the main sensation of the whole Mongolian Elite National Championships.  

Reigning ASBC Asian Elite Champion Chinzorig Baatarsukh is two-time Olympian, and will be turning to 31 this year, but he decided to continue his career at the welterweight (67kg). He eliminated Ganbaatar Bayarkhuu in a fantastic semi-final and following that he was too smart for former two-time AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Uranchimeg Munkh-Erdene. Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar moved down to the light middleweight (71kg) and stopped or knocked out all of his opponents in the national event.

Jargal Otgonjargal claimed bronze medal at the 2010 Asian Games and after a break, he returned to the competition in the National Championships. The 31-year-old boxer defeated Batbayar Erkhembayar in the final of the middleweight (75kg) and he plans to return to the international stage. Baatarsaikhan Agarzandan, Otgonjargal Batzorig, Purevdorj Myagmarbat and veteran Sandagsuren Erdenebayar won the heaviest weight classes in 2022.
