Asian Games winner Amit Panghal will be leading India’s squad at the AIBA World Boxing Championships

The AIBA World Boxing Championships for the men’s elite boxers will be held in Yekaterinburg, Russia on September 7-22. All of the top Asian teams are focusing to the world event and among them the Indians will be also there with a strong team including Asian Games winner Amit Panghal in the line-ups.
Team India will be attending in the AIBA World Boxing Championships with maximum number of eight boxers and expecting at least one medal in Yekaterinburg. India claimed one bronze medal in the last edition of the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Hamburg, Germany two years ago but their Gaurav Bidhuri (56kg) was not able to fight out a place in the squad now.
Head coach Mr. Santiago Nieva selected the eight-strong team to the upcoming AIBA World Boxing Championships. India attended successfully in the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Confederation Elite Boxing Championships and their teams were there in all of the main international tournaments in the recent two years.
India’s best weapon in the AIBA World Boxing Championships could be Amit Panghal who claimed gold medal at the light flyweight (49kg) in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games. Following that amazing success, the 24-year-old boxer moved up to the flyweight (52kg) and won the gold medal at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Confederation Elite Boxing Championships as well. Panghal defeated Uzbekistan’s Olympic Games winner Hasanboy Dusmatov on both top Asian competitions.
Kavinder Singh Bisht had tough rivals in India but he defeated Mohammed Hussamuddin and all of his rivals which means he can represent the country at the featherweight (57kg) in Yekaterinburg. The 24-year-old promising Indian reached his career highlight at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Confederation Elite Boxing Championships where he achieved silver medal this April.
Manish Kaushik achieved silver medal in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and defeated such strong opponents in the recent two years as Shiva Thapa and many top foreigners including Cubans as well. The Indian lightweight (63kg) boxer has got excellent technical skills who could be a surprise in the Yekaterinburg event.
Duryodhan Singh Negi is a veteran boxer but following his strong international results, he received the right to represent India in a big event at the very first time. Ashish Kumar replaced their former star Vikash Krishan Yadav at the middleweight (75kg) but he started with a valuable silver medal at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Confederation Elite Boxing Championships.
Brijesh Yadav (81kg) and Sanjeet (91kg) competed several international tournaments and also at the World Series Boxing but both are newcomers in the AIBA World Boxing Championships. Satish Kumar is India’s best super heavyweight (+91kg) boxer since 2013 who was bronze medallist at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Confederation Elite Boxing Championships and he was also quarter-finalist in a previous world event.
