ASBC U22 champs Fozilova, Uktamova coast to finals in Kyrgyz tournament

Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian U22 gold winners Farzona Fozilova and Nigina Uktamova dispatched their respective opponents in the semifinals of the 44th Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The 18-year-old Fozilova eked out a narrow 3-2 victory over Kazakhstan’s Aigerim Sattibaeva to arrange a women’s minimumweight (48kg) title bout against her teammate Marzhona Savrieva, who stopped another Kazakh fighter in Akbota Bolat in the second round.

On the other hand, the 19-year-old Uktamova marched to the final of the women’s bantamweight (54kg) division after overwhelming Anel Sakysha of Kazakhstan, 5-0. She is set to meet fellow Uzbek standout Nozima Bultorova, who also came through with a 5-0 win over Aigul Abduvakhid of Kazakhstan in the other semis match.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Elite silver medalist Vladislava Kukhta had no problem moving up to lightweight (60kg) as she scored a lopsided 5-0 victory at the expense of teammate Shakhnoza Isaeva in the semifinals.

Hometown bet Nurzhigit Duishebaev, a silver finisher in the Belgrade Winner Tournament, stunned his fellow Kyrgyz mainstay and ASBC Asian bronze medalist Mirlan Turkbay Uulu, 4-1, to advance to the final of men’s flyweight (51kg). Another Kyrgyzstan standout Zhatoro Tashiev, who earned a bronze at the AIBA Youth World Championships 2021, used his aggression to the hilt for a 5-0 decision against Uzbekistan’s Gafur Tokhirov in men’s welterweight (63.5kg).
