ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba sends his best wishes to the Thai Boxing Family on their National Day

The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation Mr. Anas Alotaiba, and the whole ASBC management are sending their best wishes to the Thailand Boxing Association and their whole Boxing Family on their National Day. Thailand celebrates their festive day with contests in the Elite & Youth National Championships.

The Thailand National Day or King Bhumibol’s birthday is considered a public holiday in the whole country. The general population takes a rest-off work and school while all of the government offices and the banks are closed. Silence is expected particularly at 8am and 6pm when the national anthem is being played. As the National Day falls on Saturday this year, Monday will be also a national holiday in Thailand.

The National Day is in remembrance of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world’s longest serving monarch who started his reign in 1946. He passed away in 2016 but the Thai people treats him as Father of the Nation due to what he has done four the country in terms of modernization and all of the developments. The Thai people have high respect for the late king, the local currency is also the symbol of the king.

Thailand qualified five boxers to the Tokyo Olympic Games and among them four could compete in Japan’s capital due to Thitisan Panmod’s injury. Their AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Sudaporn Seesondee advanced to the semi-finals in Tokyo and she impressed in the whole Games. The lightweight (60kg) star had a wonderful bout against Ireland’s Kellie Harrington and achieved bronze medal in Tokyo.

Thailand sent ten mostly young boxers to the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships and their squad amazed in Belgrade a few weeks ago. Their Wuttichai Yurachai advanced to the final of the minimumweight (48kg) and only Kazakhstan’s Temirtas Zhussupov was able to stop him. Besides to Yurachai’s silver, two youngsters as Thanarat Saengphet and Weerapon Jongjoho both bagged bronze medals in Belgrade. Thailand returned to the trainings and to their national sport center short after the quarantine period in April 2020 and their top boxers are in top shape in the national event. Altogether 213 female and male bouts contested in the 2020 edition of the Thailand Elite National Boxing Championships in Muak Lek one year ago and their new national event is running in the same venue in our current days.
