ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba and the whole ASBC management wish Happy Thai New Year

The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore and the whole ASBC management wish Happy Thai New Year for the Southeast Asian boxing family which may bring prosperity, health and happiness to all stakeholders.

Songkran is the Thai New Year’s national holiday which is on April 13 every year but the celebrations continues until April 15. The Thai government extended the festival nationwide to five days to enable people to travel home for holiday. The word of “Songkran” comes from the Sanskrit language and it means movement, transformation and an astrological passage. The Songkran festival celebrates not only in Thailand, but in Laos, in Cambodia, in Myanmar, in Sri Lanka, and some parts of Vietnam, India and China.

Thailand was planning to host the Thailand International Open Boxing Tournament before the Songkran festivals but the event was postponed due to the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus. Thailand Boxing Association hosted the 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Bangkok one year ago. The Secretary General of the Thailand Boxing Association Mr. Chaiwat Chotima is one of the Vice-Presidents of the Asian Boxing Confederation who is one of the key persons of their developments including the President of TBA Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira.
