ASBC medallist Kazakh boxers dominated the 26th Nurmagambetov Tournament

The next 26th edition of the Sagadat Nurmagambetov International Boxing Tournament featured in Almaty, Kazakhstan. ASBC medallists from elite and youth competitions as Daniyal Sabit, Biybars Zheksen, Ayatulla Takizhanov and Yerassyl Zhakpekov were all among the winners of the Nurmagambetov Tournament.

Altogether 177 boxers competed for the medals in all of the thirteen official categories from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg). Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, Kyrgyzstan sent boxers to the event and several top athletes won the titles in the former capital city of Kazakhstan.

The boxing competition was held to perpetuate the memory of the General of the Army Mr. Sagadat Kozhakhmetovich Nurmagambetov. The Chairman of the Sports Committee Head of the Central Sports Club of the Army of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mrs. Olga Shishigina, the former Olympic Champion hurdler in track and field athletics, was also responsible for the competition.   

Zhenish Ulpatov is a 20-year-old Kyrgyz boxer at the minimumweight (48kg) who earned his nation’s lone title in Almaty after beating Kazakhstan’s Daryn Kulzhabayev in the first final. Daniyal Sabit, the 2021 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist, had a comfortable victory over his teammate, Kenzhe Muratuly at the flyweight (51kg).

A National Champion from Kazakhstan, the 25-year-old Orazbek Assylkulov had the experience to beat the Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Yerbolat Sabyr at the featherweight (57kg).

The ASBC Asian Youth Champion Biybars Zheksen moved up to the lightweight (60kg) and he secured a further gold medal for the host country, controlling all of his four bouts. Sultan Musinov, the silver medallist from the 2022 Thailand Open, defeated a veteran Kazakh boxer, Adilet Kurmetov in the final of the light welterweight (63.5kg).

Kazakhstan’s 28-year-old Dilmurat Mizhitov, a former WSB boxer, made his debut at the welterweight (67kg) but his routine was enough to beat a strong Uzbek in the final, Jakhongir Rakhmonov.

Darkhan Duisebay also has done a successful mission in the light middleweight (71kg) proving his strong developments. Former ASBC Asian Youth Champion Ayatulla Takizhanov (75kg), ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Zhakpekov (80kg) and the Elite National Champion Shaimurat Kusainov (86kg) all has done strong job in the event.

The Chinese boxers controlled the two heavier weight categories in the event which were upsets at the Nurmagambetov Tournament. Ashan Rezibieke (92kg) and Abudurexiti Remula (+92kg) both are from the Xinjiang region and defeated Kazakhs in their finals.

 86kg: Shaimurat Kusainov, Kazakhstan

 92kg: Ashan Rezibieke, China

 +92kg: Abudurexiti Remula, China
