ASBC medalists see action in Mongolian Elite Championships
The Mongolian Elite National Championships have started in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, with some Asian medal winners among the 184 participating boxers.
The men’s bantamweight (54kg) is the busiest weight class with the participation of 18 boxers in the National Championships. The national event is the selection competition for the upcoming top competitions such as the Women’s World Boxing Championships, Men’s World Boxing Championships and Asian Games.
ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2021 gold medalist and two-time Olympian Chinzorig Baatarsukh moves back to the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) class where he is seen as the title favorite.
Former Asian elite champ Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu is expected to have his hands full against another Asian medalist in Gantumur Lundaa in the featherweight (57kg) division.
His younger brother Enkhmandakh, an Asian elite bronze finisher, is one of the strongest contenders in flyweight (51kg) along with Asian Games medalist Gan-Erdene Ganzorig.
Battumut Misheelt is the favourite at the welterweight (67kg) while Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar has the realistic chance to rule the light middleweight (71kg) in Ulaanbaatar.
The women’s tournament also features strong pugs including ASBC medalist and multiple national champion Namuun Monkhor in featherweight (57kg).
Asian podium finishers Yesugen Oyuntsetseg (fly-52kg), Ganzorig Badmaarag and Tugsjargal Nomin-Erdene (light-60kg) are out to claim national titles as well. The bantamweight (54kg) contains three top boxers in action: Munguntsetseg Enkhjargal, Battur Zoljargal and Erdenedalai Michidmaa.
A total of 128 men across the 13 official weight categories and 56 women in 10 divisions have joined the tilt that serves as a selection for international competitions.
