Asadov, Khabibullayev banner Uzbekistan in Bocskai tournament

Reigning youth world champions Bakhtiyor Asadov and Turabek Khabibullayev headline the 13-man Uzbekistan national team for the 67th Bocskai Istvàn Memorial Tournament slated on February 7-11 in Debrecen, Hungary.

Asadov, who is also an Asian youth winner, will make his elite debut as he slugs it out in the featherweight (57kg) class while Turabek Khabibullayev will compete in the light heavyweight (80kg) division.

World Championships 2017 bronze medalist Sanjar Tursunov and fellow national veteran Oybek Jurayev will see action in heavyweight (92kg) and bantamweight (54kg), respectively.

Defending Asian youth titlists Khujanazar Nortojiyev (bantam) and Rakhmatullo Boymatov (light heavy) are also included in the strong squad.

Ziyovuddin Alijonov was a huge surprise in the youth events last year, he robbed to the bests of the flyweight (51kg). The Tashkent region’s Aydos Tagaybayev and the promising Komronbek Turgunboyev both will be turning to 20 this year and they have more international experiences among the elite and U22 boxers.

The Bocskai Tournament is one of the oldest international boxing competitions in Europe after the Strandja Memorial Tournament. This year’s editions will feature the 13 official weight categories for elite men and 12 for elite women. The host city is located in the Eastern part of the country and it is famous of its boxing and sport schools.

The 67th edition of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament will be the highlight of the second week of February and several of the Asian teams decided to send their boxers to the traditional Hungarian event.

Uzbekistan will look to dominate again after coming through with stellar performances in the Asian Elite, Asian U22, and Youth World Championships last year.
