ASBC Heroes – Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Schoolboys Champion Hojiakbar Mahmudov

Uzbekistan’s Hojiakbar Mahmudov was one of the ASBC Heroes in 2019 who could be one of the future hopes of our continent. The Uzbek boxer won the gold medal at the 37kg weight class in the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships and he also started well his campaigns in the junior age group.

Uzbekistan’s Hojiakbar Mahmudov was born in 2005 and the 15-year-old talent currently is one of their top junior boxers. Hojiakbar Mahmudov also trains in Ferghana as his fellow ASBC Asian Schoolboys Champion Khumoyunmirzo Abdurasulov and captured the second gold medal for the city following his success over Andizhan’s Azizbek Ergashov at the 2019 Uzbekistan Schoolboys National Championships.

Uzbekistan’s Hojiakbar Mahmudov controlled his semi-final fight against Tajikistan’s Ruslan Gafurov at the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships and met in the final of the event with India’s Aryan. Mahmudov was taller than his Indian opponent and landed nice jabs from safe distance in the first round of their battle. Aryan worked also well enough on feet but his Uzbek opponent was more effective in their final therefore Mahmudov achieved his highlight, the continental title at the 37kg weight class in Kuwait City.

Ferghana’s Hojiakbar Mahmudov moved up to the 42kg weight class following his gold medal at the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships but he quickly adopted the level of the junior boxers. He defeated promising Islam Nukhritdinov in the final of the Uzbekistan Junior National Cup which was his last big event before the Covid-19 pandemic.
