ASBC Heroes – Mongolia’s first ever woman gold medallist Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal

Mongolia’s historical first gold medal among the women’s junior boxers was achieved by 16-year-old Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal in Fujairah one year ago. She was not only Mongolia’s star last year but the ASBC Heroes following her gold medal at the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Women’s Junior Boxing Championships.

Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal was born in Mongolia’s capital in Ulaanbaatar on June 28 in 2003 and began her boxing career in the Khilchin Boxing Club in 2015. A former Mongolian National Champion, a young coach Mr. Erkin Jamantai is her trainer who supports Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal’s developments.

The Mongolian talent won her first national title in the junior level in 2017 and she repeated that performance one year later and at the 2019 National Children Games. She claimed gold medal at the Makanalin & Nokerbekov & Satenov Junior Memorial Tournament in Kazakhstan. The Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Women’s Junior Boxing Championships was her second international event after 24 bouts but she demonstrated her footwork against Kazakhstan’s Anar Tursynbek.

China’s Liang Xinyu won their Junior National Games which was their main selection tournament for the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. The 16-year-old Chinese has got already more than four years of experiences in our sport and she was the favourite against Mongolia’s lone finalist Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal at the featherweight (57kg).

The Mongolian boxer was highly motivated in their final and caught her Chinese opponent with nice jabs in the opening round. Liang worked better in the second round and returned to the match with more aggressive style. The Mongolian felt this is the best chance of her whole career and her great finish delivered for Tugsjargal a gold medal in the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Women’s Junior Boxing Championships.
