ASBC Heroes – Japan’s unbeaten woman star Hikaru Shinohara

Japan’s amazing female youngster Hikaru Shinohara won the light flyweight (48kg) at the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships which was the first final in Mongolia’s capital. The unbeaten Shinohara will be turning to 18 later this year and she is our ASBC Hero who never lost any contest yet during her career.

Hikaru Shinohara was born in Tokyo on December 13 in 2002 and began boxing in 2014 at the age of 12. The southpaw boxer won the All-Japan Women’s Junior National Championships and the Japanese Women’s Youth National Championships in 2018 which gold medals guaranteed her place in the national team.

The Japanese High National Selection Tournament was held on March 2019 which was a four-day long competition. The Gunma Prefecture hosted the Japanese High School National Selection Tournament which is a developing boxing region in the country. Tokyo’s Hikaru Shinohara won the gold medal at the flyweight (51kg) after beating another top hope Osaka’s Karen Yasumura which was a spectacular contest in the event.

Hikaru Shinohara was involved to the Japanese team which attended at the prestigious Bornemissza Youth & Junior Memorial Tournament in Eger, Hungary on June 2019. The promising Japanese boxer advanced to the finals and met with Thailand’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Nillada Meekoon who moved up to the flyweight (51kg) to attend in the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament. Shinohara survived the dangerous moments in the second round and landed more punches in the third and has done a big surprise in the competition defeating the Thai favourite. 

Japan’s best female hope Hikaru Shinohara arrived to the venue of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships as a favourite of the women’s light flyweight (48kg) following her successes in the national events and the Strong Bornemissza Youth Memorial Tournament. She was still 16 by the time of the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships but she impressed with her fighting spirit and amazing technique.

Shinohara eliminated India’s Rajni in the quarter-finals of the continental event winning the bout by split decision due to her superb final round. The Japanese youngster eliminated also Thailand’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Nillada Meekoon during her road to the finals on their re-match. The Japanese girl had another tough opponent China’s Hu Meiyi but due her amazing final round, she was able to win that difficult title bout and achieved gold medal in Ulaanbaatar, furthermore she remained unbeaten.
