ASBC Future Stars – Nepal’s new woman sensation 18-year-old National Games winner Sushma Tamang

Nepal began School in Boxing program in the recent years to increase the number of the boxers in the junior and youth age groups and their new female sensation could be a teenager, Sushma Tamang. The Asian Boxing Confederation’s new PR campaign, the ASBC Future stars have been introducing the continent’s best hopes and young talents focusing to the new wave of the boxers.

Nepal’s new talent Sushma Tamang is still a female youth boxer but she is the country’s elite No.1 at the light flyweight (48kg). Sushma Tamang was born in Kathmandu on August 7 in 2002 and turned to 18 this year. She began her boxing career at the age of 13 in 2015 and trains every week at least five times and had altogether 13 bouts. Sushma Tamang lives in the Naxal area of the capital city in Kathmandu where her coach is Mr. Nabin Tandukar.

Nepalgunj hosted the last edition of the Nepal National Games on April 2019 where Sushma Tamang has been selected to attend following the regional competitions. She opened her campaign in the event with Sabitri Tamang but she launched her best combinations to beat the quarter-final opponent. Sushma Tamang walked over to the final following Pratibha Shrestha was unable to box against her.

She met in the final with ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Lalita Maharjan who was named as the top favourite of the women’s light flyweight (48kg) of the Nepali National Games. Naxal’s best boxer exceeded all of the previous expectations in that final and used her developing footwork and high stamina in the event. Sushma Tamang outpointed Lalita Maharjan and won their final by split decision delivering the main sensation of the Nepali National Games. She competed at the 2019 Nepali Youth National Championships which was their first historical edition for that age group. Tamang stopped Pratishta Aryal in a quick bout in the semi-finals when the referee stopped their unequal contest still in the first round. She met in the final of the Youth National Championships with Ramsha Shrestha who became competitive for Tamang in the title bout. Tamang landed the better punches in their contest and won her new challenge unanimously claiming her next national title at the women’s light flyweight (48kg).
