Amazing 458 boxers are fighting in the Vietnamese Youth & Junior & Schoolboys National Championships

Amazing number of 458 boxers are attending in the Vietnam Youth & Junior & Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Quang Ngai province where the competition is running until the 31st of October. The first schoolgirls and schoolboys contests were held in the two-weeks long National Championships.

Vietnam Boxing Federation hosted their National Cup for the elite boxers earlier and now the developing Southeast Asian country arranged its new competition for the younger age groups. This is the very first time in the history of Vietnam’s boxing life when the country can host competition for schoolgirls and schoolboys. The management of the Vietnam Boxing Federation has got longer term strategies and focuses to their youth more effectively.

Despite of the debut of the schoolgirls in the national level, 69 boxers are attending in the 11 weight classes in the Quang Ngai province. There are 12 girls who are competing at the pinweight (46kg) and these 13 and 14-year-old talents could be there in the 2021 ASBC Asian Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships. The number of the schoolboys in the historical first National Championships is 71 in the event. The 2006-2007 age group can compete in the schoolgirl and schoolboy level in the new event.

Vietnam has been focusing to women’s boxing more actively than many of the National Federations and their girls are reached top level with several ASBC and AIBA medals in the recent years. Their junior and youth girls are experienced athletes, some of them have got already more than 20-30 fights from the recent years.

The first four sessions have done in the Vietnam Youth & Junior & Schoolboys National Championships where the competition will be finalized with the title bouts in the last days of October. The venue of the Vietnam Youth & Junior & Schoolboys Boxing Championships is the Indoor Sport Stadium of the Quang Ngai Province in the Nguyen Tu Tan street.

In the opening bout of the whole national event, Nguyen Tan Hung of Ho Chi Minh City defeated Tran Ba Ngoc of Hanoi at the men’s youth lightweight (60kg). In that weight class, Haiphong’s Dang Long Nhat had a narrow success over Nguyen Huynh Trinh and also advanced to the next stage of the competition. The first schoolgirl bout was held between Hoang Thi Ngoc Linh and Tran Nguyen Thao Vy at the 44kg weight class. Hoang won that historical first bout by RSC and secured her place in the next stage of the national event. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai (44kg), Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (46kg) and Ly Thi Mai (46kg) all proved their talents in the schoolgirls event.
