Altogether 65 female boxers including ASBC Asian Champion Nguyen Thi Tam train in Hanoi proving Vietnam’s strength

The Vietnamese woman boxing team has been preparing with high intensity to the upcoming national and international events. Altogether 65 female boxers train in their capital city in Hanoi from various age groups. Vietnam’s woman boxing life is among the best in our continent and their boxers are highly motivated before the new goals.

Vietnam’s woman coach Mr. Tawan Mungphingklang is an experienced Thai trainer who supported the Southeast Asian country’s boxing life in the recent years. The Vietnamese elite, youth and junior talents attended several international competitions besides to their National Championships and National Cups.

Nguyen Thi Tam won several medals in the international tournaments in the previous five years but her career highlight was a gold medal at the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships. She claimed silver medal in the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and aiming for a spot for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Nguyen Thi Huong became Vietnam’s first female boxer who won a medal in the AIBA Women’s Elite World Boxing Championships. She claimed bronze medal at the light heavyweight (81kg) in the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships as a historical success. Both of Vietnam’s stars are in the training camp in Hanoi together with the other dozens of talents.

Vietnam’s female boxing life turned to a new era in 2011 when their boxers claimed medals in the AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior World Boxing Championships. The next big step for the Vietnamese female boxers was the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships. The continental event was hosted by the Vietnamese Boxing Federation and during the event Nguyen Thi Tam claimed gold medal. Vietnam earned one quota place in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman, Jordan but surprisingly in the male part of the event. Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Duong caused one of the main surprises in the event when he stopped Thailand’s ASBC Asian Champion Chatchai Decha Butdee with a tough punch in the quarter-finals of the men’s featherweight (57kg).
