Afghanistan bagged a historic medal in Yerevan

The last part of the quarter-finals featured at the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia on Day7 and all of the winners are now guaranteed medallists. India, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are the strongest countries but Afghanistan bagged a historic medal in the session.

Boxers who were born in 2007 and in 2008 are eligible to participate in the Junior World Boxing Championships. Afghanistan, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan sent their boxers from the Asian continent.

Tajikistan formed an excellent junior team for this year and their female boxers are also exceeded their previous levels. Farinoz Abdulloyeva made her international debut in 2023 but she had the speed and the aggressive attacks to beat Poland’s Antonina Hader which means she became Tajikistan’s first woman medallist in this age group. 

Uzbekistan’s Sevara Mamatova competed mostly in national events before this Junior World Boxing Championships but she had the extraordinary skills to gain the control in the first round against Hungary’s Sara Varga. Mamatova continued her dominance in the second and third rounds and she advanced to the women’s featherweight (57kg).

Uzbekistan’s Khikmatillo Ulmasov prepared hard only this championship in the previous months and he eliminated excellent talents including Armenia’s Alik Ktshoyan at the light welterweight (63kg) today. His teammate, the welterweight (66kg) hope Akbar Akhmadov also joined the last four following his success over Iran’s defending Asian Junior Champion, Mohammad Mesbahi Rouzbahani.

Amantur Dzhumayev is Kyrgyzstan’s new sensation who amazed all of the experts this year and he won his next important contest in Yerevan. The ASBC Asian Junior Champion Kyrgyz boy claimed his second medal within one month in a main event after beating Russia’s Maksim Chaplygin at the men’s light bantamweight (52kg). 

His teammate, an Asian Championships silver medallist talent, Dilerbek Sadirov felt that he is in top daily shape and destroyed his opponent’s defense immediately. The Kyrgyz featherweight (57kg) boxer smashed Romania’s Mario Ciprian Iofciu in the first round and after the standing counts, Sadirov celebrated Kyrgyzstan’s next medal. Afghanistan had great schoolboys results in 2019 and the country participated in several events this year despite their difficulties. Amanollah Sahak is a new addition to their junior team but he made historic steps day by day in this championship where he reached the semi-finals as first Afghan after beating Ireland’s Patrick Kelly at the men’s featherweight (57kg).
