Leung Kin Fong defended his throne in the new edition of the Macau Open Boxing Tournament

The 2019 edition of the Macau Open Boxing Tournament was held in Macau, China which is a traditional competition in the end of the year. Among the titleholders of the Macau Open Boxing Tournament only the best local hope Leung Kin Fong was able to manage to defend his throne in the event.

Macau hosted the event in the recent years with great success and their social media communication impressed many stakeholders in the Asian continent. Mr. Billy Vong is Macau’s well-known official who arranged all of the necessary things of the Open Boxing Tournament besides to his duties in the South Asian Games.

Macau is planning to be more active in the international events in the upcoming years but they have only a small group of boxers in the country. Macau has got strategic plans for the upcoming four years to develop all aspects of the sport including the level of the Referees & Judges, coaches and to increase the number of athletes.

The women boxers returned to the 2018 edition of the Macau Open Boxing Tournament and two weight classes were also in the official program of the new event. The first female gold medal was achieved by Stephanie Eveline who had a seriously tight fight against Vong Wing Yen in the final of the bantamweight (54kg). The second women gold medal was earned by a local talent Wong Ya Man who had a clear success over Kao Ching Ting in the final of the female lightweight (60kg).

The first male title was achieved by Macau’s Alvin John who defeated a Chinese boxer, Shenzhen-based Cao Yinlei in the final of the men’s bantamweight (57kg). Huang Zexi arrived also from the city of Shenzhen and walked over to the gold medal against Cheng Qiao won could not fight against him in the final of the lightweight (60kg).

The organizers of the Macau Open Boxing Tournament divided the boxers into two groups at the light welterweight (64kg). Leung Kin Fong was the titleholder of the men’s light welterweight (64kg) in the Macau Open Boxing Tournament who won the title in 2018 and repeated that performance also in the new competition. Following Leung’s success, the second group of the category was won by Shenzhen’s Fong Guangcai who defeated Zhou Ruecheng of Zhahi in the next final.
