The next generation of young teenage boxers dominated the Cambodian National Championships

The new edition of the Cambodian National Boxing Championships was held for the elite women and male boxers in the capital city of the country in Phnom Penh. The boxers from the next generation of Cambodia such as Sao Rangsey, Bang Non, Peng Vanthung and Ny Sophy won their next national events.
Altogether 6 women and 62 men elite boxers attended in the Cambodian National Boxing Championships. The Cambodian boxers have been preparing to the upcoming Southeast Asian Games which is scheduled to be held in Manila, Philippines this December and their bests will be aiming for medals there.
The Cambodian Boxing Federation launched its strategic plan in 2016 and since then the Southeast Asian country is even more active in the boxing map. The 2023 edition of the Southeast Asian Games is the top goal of the Cambodians where their Secretary General Mr. Sophoan Buy is the key person of their developments.
The women boxers could fight in the Cambodian National Boxing Championships in one category at the featherweight (57kg) where six younger talents competed for the title. Vy Sreysros had experiences from the previous national competitions and defeated Yem Sreyneang in the final of the lone female category.
Ministry of Economic & Finance Team’s Sao Rangsey attended in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Bangkok and also at the Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships. The teenage talent had to meet in the final of the light flyweight (49kg) with 18-year-old Nov Sokty which was one of the best fights of the whole national event and won by Rangsey closely.
Ministry of Interior Team’s Bang Non was quarter-finalist in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships where he won two tough contests as well. The 19-year-old boxer moved down to the flyweight (52kg) but he was quicker than Prak Den in the final and celebrated his next national title in Phnom Penh.
The male bantamweight (56kg) delivered strong battles in the Cambodian National Boxing Championships where 10 boxers competed for the title. Ministry of Interior Team’s Ouch Thearith won all of his four fights in the weight class including against Noun David in the final and celebrated his title in the event.
Peng Vanthung is another talented teenager in Cambodia who moved forward step by step and following his developments, he showed his skills internationally at the Andaman Youth Games in Phuket, Thailand this September. The teenage hope used his excellent footwork to land punches and defeated Khun Bora in the final of the bantamweight (56kg).
Phal Sopheak has got experiences from the previous editions of the Southeast Asian Games and defeated his top rivals as National Champion Vy Sophors in the quarter-finals, Them Tourn in the semi-finals and Set Sarith in the final of the light welterweight (64kg). The welterweight (69kg) gold medal was taken by Mang Promanh who triumphed over Thy Bunthoeun in the final.
Ministry of Interior Team’s Ny Sophy was the titleholder of the middleweight (75kg) at the Cambodian National Championships and he defended his throne against Pan Piseth. Rom Samnang won the title of the 2016 Cambodian National Games at the middleweight (75kg) but he attended in the new national event at the light heavyweight (81kg). Samnang dominated his final against Siv Songmeng and secured his next national success.
