Harsh, Neeru, Rupesh Bind, Nikhil, Preet Malik and Yashwardhan Singh guaranteed the high quality of boxing in the Indian Schoolboys National Championships

The new edition of the Indian Schoolboys National Boxing Championships was held in the city of Rohtak in the recent days. SSCB’s Harsh won the first title in the Indian Schoolboys National Championships but many of his compatriots proved high quality of boxing including Rupesh Bind, Nikhil, Preet Malik, Yashwardhan Singh and Sunil Negi.
The venue of the event was the National Boxing Academy in Rohtak which is India’s main training centre as well. Fourteen champions celebrated their titles after the finals in their six-day long competition. India produced superb boxing results among the juniors and schoolboys in the recent two decades and their schoolboys are planning to go through on that pathway this year. Altogether impressive number of 312 bouts were held in the Indian Schoolboys National Championships.
Boxers who were born in 2005 or in 2006 were eligible to attend in the Indian Schoolboys National Championships. The event was one of the main preparation competitions before the start of the first ASBC Asian Confederation Schoolboys Boxing Championships which will be held in Kuwait City this August. The winners of the Indian Schoolboys National Championships can introduce themselves in the international competitions next month.
SSCB claimed six out of the fourteen available gold medals and topped the team rankings in the Indian Schoolboys National Championships. The strong team of Haryana region achieved five gold medals in the event and became the runner-up. Amazing success for the team of Goa that one of their young talents achieved the title in the competition. The team of Delhi earned six medals in the national event but only silver and bronze medals.
The first gold medal in the event was taken by SSCB’s Harsh who defeated Delhi’s Rudra in the final of the 35kg weight class winning the bout by unanimous decision. Aryan was not the main favourite for the gold medal at the 37kg weight class but following his energetic success over Maharashtra’s Gopal Katta in the semi-finals, he was slightly better than Nikhil Kumar in the final.
SSCB’s second gold medal in the national event was won by Services’ Neeru at the 40kg in Rohtak where he was too smart for the main favourite Delhi’s Karan Vats in the final causing a surprise in Rohtak. Goa is not the best Indian boxing city but one of their young hopes Rupeh Bind delivered a big success for them winning the final of the 43kg weight class against Delhi’s Deepanshu.
Punjab’s lone title was taken by Nikhil in the Indian Schoolboys National Championships who dominated his final over Ranjana Rohith at the 46kg weight class. SSCB’s third and fourth titles were earned by Vinay Viswakarma and Ashish following their clear dominancy over the final opponents in Rohtak.
Haryana is one of the strongest Indian regions and their Preet Malik showed his excellent fighting spirit in the final against SSCB’s Henthoi Singh Mayengbam which bout was one of the bests in the whole competition. Haryana’s next sensation in the event was Yashwardhan Singh who controlled all of the three rounds against Manipur’s Chinglema Moirangthem in the final of the 58kg.
SSCB’s fifth gold was a result of a hard work which produced Sunil Negi at the 61kg weight class against Haryana’s Anke. The further gold medallists of the Indian Schoolboys National Boxing Championships were Gaurav Saini (64kg), Naksh Beniwal (67kg), strong Bharat Joon (70kg) and Randeep (+70kg) in Rohtak.
