Yang Chin Yi exceeded her career highlight and she earned a medal for Chinese Taipei

Thirteen countries shared the youth medals at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Sam Estaki is the son of the youth national coach of the Iranian team and he tried to use his longer reach against Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Mekhriddinov in the opening bout of the evening session. The Iranian was competitive in the first round but Mekhriddinov heavy punches controlled the second in their manly meeting therefore the Uzbek had the advantage after six minutes. Estaki is a big talent in our sport but Mekhriddinov’s skills were decided their contest today and the Uzbek marched to the last four.

Kazakhstan’s Madiyar Beksultanov competed in several junior events in 2023 and he joined the youth age group this January. The 17-year-old light heavyweight (80kg) boxer spends his first year among the youth athletes and he has to still acclimatize to the longer rounds but his strength dominated his quarter-final over Chinese Taipei’s Wang Yu Tang.

Following Rassul Assankhanov’s quick success in the next heavyweight (92kg) bout, Uzbekistan’s Khalimjon Mamasoliyev landed his powerful punches against China’s Abudu Paheerding, a smaller opponent. The 18-year-old Uzbek had the advantage in punching power and in routine therefore Mamasoliyev is now the guaranteed medallist.

Chinese Taipei’s Yang Yin Chi met Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai in the first female contest of the day at the minimumweight (48kg). The 17-year-old girl from Chinese Taipei had strong hooks in the first and second rounds to take the lead on the judges’ scorecards. Yang became her nation’s first youth medallist in Astana and she will now meet Kazakhstan’s Anel Abdrasilova in the semi-finals.

The women’s youth flyweight (52kg) is one of the strongest categories in this championship where India’s Nisha had a hard first round against Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiu Lin who had the same quick footwork. Nisha’s shots decided their contest in the second round and she secured her place in the semi-finals of the championship.

Thailand’s Panisa Kattipirot competed in the recent edition of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and she returned to Astana after half year of break. The Thai light flyweight (52kg) boxer tried to keep Uzbekistan’s Zilolakhon Yusufova on long with her longer hands but the Central Asian was energetic today. The Asian Junior Champion Uzbek has done the successful tactical mission and she followed Mr. Timur Akhbayev’s game plan effectively.

Bagzhan Otynbay secured her place in the women’s youth national squad in Kazakhstan at the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament four weeks ago. The 18-year-old girl had a strong start against South Korea’s Kim Ryeong Yeon but the second round delivered an equal battle between the two youngsters. Otynbay was still enough fresh in the third round to win their light flyweight (52kg) quarter-final bout by RSC.

Vietnam’s Luc Thao Thanh landed her jabs quicker than Kyrgyzstan’s Aiperi Adylbekova and she had the advantage on the scorecards after three minutes. Mr. Thanh Pham Hai, her coach, built up a hood strategy against the Kyrgyz girl and Luc Thao Thanh earned their third female youth medal in Astana.
