Uzbekistan’s unbeaten WSB star Hasanboy Dusmatov was amazing in the first final of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg) and took the first gold medal of our beloved combat sport in Rio de Janeiro more than one week ago. The Uzbek boxer not only won his weight class but finally he received the Val Barker Trophy which is the special cup for the best boxer of the Olympic Games.
The Val Barker Trophy was named for boxer Val Barker and the award goes to the best boxer of the Olympic Games every four years. Asia had three winners before Hasanboy Dusmatov and all of them are from Kazakhstan: Vasiliy Zhirov in the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, Bakhtiyar Artayev in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and Serik Sapiyev in the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Champion Hasanboy Dusmatov defeated his main rival Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Champion Birzhan Zhakypov in the quarter-final stage of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, he was too strong for United States’ Nico Hernandez in the semi-final and he was too speedy for Colombia’s surprise Yuberjen Martinez in the final of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. After Makhammatkodir Abdullaev’s success in Sydney in 2000 Dusmatov was Uzbekistan’s second Olympic Champion in boxing since the country became independent in 1991. Following that in the boxing tournament of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Uzbekistan took further two gold medals in the Riocentro Pavilion 6.
