Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov won the super heavyweight at the Tokyo Olympic Games

The last four finals were in the official program of the fifteenth competition day at the Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan today. Uzbekistan’s super heavyweight (+91kg) star Bakhodir Jalolov controlled his final against his younger US opponent and secured his Olympic gold medal in the last bout of the whole Games.

The finals of the women’s lightweight (60kg), the women’s middleweight (75kg), the men’s lightweight (63kg) and the men’s super heavyweight (+91kg) were held in the last fifteenth competition day in Tokyo. Japan and Uzbekistan became the two Asian countries which achieved gold medals in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Altogether 70 Asian boxers including 26 women and 44 men were able to represent their nations in the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games. The final number of the boxers was 289 in the Games where thirteen champions have been crowned in Tokyo after 276 bouts. Among the Asian nations, Japan, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, India, Thailand, China and Uzbekistan won at least one medal in Tokyo.

China’s Li Qian surprisingly claimed only silver medal at the middleweight

China’s tall middleweight (75kg) boxer Li Qian earned bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games but since then she won all of her international and national contests. The 31-year-old Chinese eliminated Russian Olympic Committee’s two-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Zenfira Magomedalieva in a superb semi-final, dominating their contest. Li Qian, who claimed gold medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, met in the Olympic final with Great Britain’s Welsh girl, Lauren Price, the defending AIBA Women’s World Champion from 2019.

Li Qian started the first round slowly and she moved ahead more in the opening minutes in comparison to her previous bouts. The Welsh boxer was smaller but kept also long distance against the tall Chinese and she was better in that game play in the first round. Price is a fighter but in this Olympic final she used a different tactic and surprised the Chinese star with that strategy. Li Qian could not use her longer reach well enough in the Olympic final and suffered a loss to the Welsh boxer, achieving silver medal in Tokyo.

Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov is the champion of heaviest weight class

Uzbekistan’s superstar Bakhodir Jalolov is the reigning AIBA World Champion and he is three-time ASBC Asian Champion at the super heavyweight (+91kg). He won all of his contests since August 2017 therefore he was the favourite of the king weight category in the Tokyo Olympic Games. The Uzbek star eliminated Great Britain’s veteran Frazer Clarke and met with United States’ 22-year-old Richard Torrez Jr. in the Olympic final.

Jalolov knocked out the US boy in the quarter-final of the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships. The Uzbek kept the fighting distance against the smaller US boxer and stopped his opponent’s attacks with single jabs. Jalolov received a hook in the middle of the first round but he landed at least ten punches in the opening three minutes. The Uzbek boxer landed a tough jab in the beginning of the second round and dictated the tempo well enough. The referee counted the US boxer in the second round and Torrez also received a warning therefore Jalolov had massive advantage after six minutes. Torrez survived the dangerous moments in the middle of the bout but today he was not competitive for the Uzbek star. Jalolov used his longer hands well enough in the battle of the southpaw boxers and celebrated his Olympic title in Tokyo.
